Blaze guts Deep Gap home
By Melanie Marshall
A fire heavily damaged a house on Pine Run Road early Friday morning in Deep Gap.
The fire was reported at approximately 6 a.m. and Vince Gable, safety officer for the Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Department, was the first to arrive on scene.
Gable said the house was 25 percent overtaken with flames and smoke upon arrival.
Gable added there were two to three adults, two dogs and one cat standing outside the residence when he arrived as well.
Members of the Deep Gap fire department, Boone Fire Department and Stewart Simmons Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Firefighters pumped water from a nearby creek as well as the New River.
Technician David Hancock of the Watauga County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze. He estimated the home to be a complete loss.
Half of the home was destroyed and the other half sustained heavy smoke and heat damage. The exact damage amounts have not yet been determined.
Hancock said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The names of the occupants have not been released.
There were no injuries reported.
