Legends Tournament to be held
The Legends Softball Tournament will be held April 14 to celebrate the grand opening of the Complex Softball Fields located at the Old Ann Marie Drive next to the Swim Complex. Anybody who is 45 years-old or older is are eligible to play.
The event begins with a social at 5:30 p.m. The first games begin at 6:45 with games on fields two and three, followed by two more games beginning at 7:45 p.m.
Gene Swift, Paul Gragg, Roger Critcher and Donnie Holder will serve as team captains for those playing. Deb Wynn and Jim Deal will throw out the first pitch before the 6:45 games.
The event is sponsored by Beef O’Brady’s.
Thorpe earns SoCon honor
Appalachian State’s Danielle Thorpe has been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Month.
Thorpe began the month by winning the triple jump at the Wake Forest Open with a SoCon-best jump of 40-feet, 3/4-inches. At the Weems Baskin Relay the following week Thorpe showed her versatility by finishing fifth in the 200-meter run with a time of 26.24.
Purcell takes home fourth
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — ASU freshman Darius Purcell took home fourth in the high jump, leaping 6-6 3/4 at the Sea Ray Relays held at the University of Tennesseee.
Daniel Neal earned a 12th place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, running the race in 14.58 seconds.
