Appalachian State’s women’s tennis tam slipped past Presbyterian 4-3 Wednesday at the Appalachian tennis courts.

The Mountaineers (8-13) got off to a fast start by sweeping through their three doubles matches.

The duo of Olivia Stannard and Gisela Fernandez downed Megan Davis and Abby Diminich 8-3 at the number one match, while Blakeley Bean and Lindsay King sealed the doubles spot for ASU by winning 8-2 at the number two position. Amanda Cash and Laura Janke kept the Mountaineers spotless in doubles play, earning an 8-5 win at the number three position.

The Blue Hose (2-14) would rally a comeback in singles action when Cash fell to Diminich at the number one seed. Heather Prior was also defeated at the five spot, and Bean came up short against Cara Caruso, losing 6-4, 6-4 at the four position to put Presbyterian in front 3-1.

Wins by Appalachian State’s Caroline Mauch at the number three singles, (7-5, 7-5) and King at the two position, put the match score back at 3-3.

Fernandez came up big for Appalachian at the six spot, defeating Virginia Waldron, 6-4, 7-6, including 7-3 in the tiebreaker to lead ASU to the win.

The Mountaineers host UNC Greensboro April 14.
