Storm 17-under wins tourney

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — The 17-under Watauga Storm boys basketball team won the second annual War On The Floor tournament last weekend, winning three pool games and two bracket games.

Watauga beat the Copperheads White team, made up of players from East Tennessee, 97-81 in a game that had seven players foul out and seven technical fouls issued. Watauga was able to take advantage of that when Dylan Eppley and Josh Coffey combined to make 19-f-21 foul shots in the game.
Watauga, which pulled away from the Copperheads in the second half, got 32 points from Eppley, 15 from Coffey, 13 from Wes Moyer and 12 from Will Koppenhaver.
To get to the finals, Watauga had to beat the other Copperheads team, the Copperheads Black team, 91-82.
The Copperheads scored 42 points from the 3-point arc, but Watauga got 21 points from Eppley and 18 from Casey Quinn. Damian Edwards added 14 points and Brandon Calhoun scored 12.
It was the second time that Watauga beat both Copperheads team. Watauga beat the White team 90-85 in pool play when Quinn scored 21 points, Eppley scored 18 and Edwards had 17. Caleb Watson added some key blocked shots in the game.
Watauga also beat the Black team 88-77. Watauga fell behind by 16 points, but had six players score in double figures by the time it was over. Koppenhaver scored 16, while Quinn and Eppley each scored 14.
Andy Ferrell and Calhoun each scored 13 and Coffey finished with 11.
Watauga opened the tournament with a 63-61 win over the Bristol Vikings. Watauga rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to tie the game 61-61 when Edwards hit two foul shots to win the game.
Edwards finished with 17 points, while Calhoun and Eppley each scored 10.
Eppley averaged 19.0 points per game, while Quinn averaged 12.8. Edwards chipped in 11.4 points per game.
The 17-under Storm consists of Ferrell, Calhoun, Watson, Quinn, Edwards, Eppley, Elliot Willis, Coffey, Moyer, and Koppenhaver. The team's head coach is West Eppley and he is assisted by Chad Eppley.
