Girl Scouts' Dessert
Tasting fundraiser tonight
By Melanie Davis Marshall
The second annual High Country Girl Scout Dessert Tasting will held Friday, March 27. Chefs from 10 area restaurants have donated their time and expertise to create recipes using Girl Scout cookies.
The event is sponsored by Chetola Resort and will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Appalachian Room. Tickets are $15 each or $25 per couple. There will be a grand prize raffle.
Chefs from Chetola, Dan’l Boone Inn, Daylight Donuts, Gadabouts, Glidewell's, Murphy's, Storie Street Grille, Tupelo's, Vidalia and Zuzda's will be participating in this year's event.
While the final dessert may be a secret, the chefs will be using Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread and Caramel DeLites to create the treats.
The annual event also features a silent auction, with items ranging from jewelry, gift baskets to ceramics and Appalachian State University gear.
All the proceeds of the event benefit programs and financial assistance for Girl Scouts Council of the Catawba Valley area.
The council encompasses Catawba, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Watauga and Ashe counties, and troops in the Mooresville area.
In Watauga, there are 18 Girl Scout troops with 220 girls participating.
For more information, or to reserve tickets, call Nancy Blair, membership specialist for the Catawba Valley area, at (828) 265-2387.
