Bumgarner pitches with Giants
Former South Caldwell standout Madison Bumgarner made a brief appearance with the San Francisco Giants in their 8-4 exhibition loss to the San Deigo Padres Saturday.
Bumgarner pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Giants, allowing one walk and striking out one Padre hitter, Jody Gerut.
Bumgarner, a 6-foot-4 left-hander, was the Giants’ first-round draft pick, the 10th overall, in the 2007 Major League draft. He pitched in Augusta, Ga., last year in the South Atlantic League, earning the league’s top pitcher award.
Bumgarner led South Caldwell to the 2007 state 4-A championship in baseball.
