A vehicle was stopped to make a left turn from the inner westbound lane near the intersection of Dogwood Road. A 1998 Ford dump truck, owned by Timber Solutions Inc., was stopped directly behind the car.
A 2002 Dodge Caravan, driven by Salina Wilson, 24, of Vilas, came to stop behind the dump truck. Kelley Smith, 22, of Asheville, was driving a 2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck following the Caravan.
Smith was unable to come to a stop and hit the Caravan, pushing it forward into the rear of the dump truck.
Wilson was transported by Watauga Medics to Watauga Medical Center. As of 3 p.m. Monday, she remained in the emergency room and her condition was unknown.
Jerry Dishman, 61, of West Jefferson, the driver of the dump truck, and Smith were uninjured in the collision.
Smith was cited by investigating officer Len Hagaman of the Boone Police Department for failure to reduce speed.
Boone Fire Department also responded to the scene.
