Meth lab located in Deep Gap

By Melanie Davis

On March 4, a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory was located in a residence at 722 Rhymer's Branch Road in Deep Gap.

Daniel Patrick Triplett

According to a statement from the Watauga County Sheriff's Office, the house was the residence of Daniel Patrick Triplett, 36. Triplett is currently incarcerated, under a secured $250,000 bond, on charges of first degree kidnapping, intimidating a witness, habitual misdemeanor assault, carrying a concealed weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

Following the location of the meth lab, additional warrants were issued on charges of possession of meth, manufacturing meth, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and/or deliver meth and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. At the time of his arrest, Triplett was on probation for convictions on felony restraint, assault on a female and communicating threats.

During the course of the investigation, the WCSO Narcotics and Special Operations Unit also discovered a second clandestine meth lab in an out building behind a burned residence at 5742 Elk Creek Road in the Steward Simmons area. That residence was determined by WCSO to be the former residence of Triplett. The date of the fire at the second home was not released.

In a statement, officers said the investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected.
