Celorrio named All-SoCon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Appalachian State junior Frank Celorrio was named first-team all-conference, while Kyle Blevins and Mike Kessler were named to the all-freshmen team, the Southern Conference announced Tuesday.

A junior from Miami, Celorrio rolled through the conference at the 133-pound weight class with a 5-0 record.

He recorded 18 wins on the season and from Jan. 3 through Feb. 15, had a 12 match winning streak and during the streak beat No. 26 ranked Sean Clair of Eastern Michigan. The honor is the first of Celorrio’s career.

Blevins had an outstanding rookie season wrestling at 165 pounds, leading the Mountaineers in wins with 22.

He began the season winning six of his first seven matches before hitting a rough spot, but finished strong winning his last four matches of the season. He finished the conference season with a 4-1 record.

Kessler, wrestling at 141 pounds, finished the season tied for fifth on the team with 14 wins with two pins and two major decisions. He finished 2-3 in conference action and five of his losses came against ranked opponents.


The Mountaineers return to action on March 7 when they compete in the Southern Conference Championships.
