Nathan A. Coffey

Mr. Nathan A. Coffey, 39, of Enola Road, Morganton, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Western Carolina Center in Morganton.
He was born Sept. 17, 1969 in Cleveland County, a son of Rev. Dean and Fairylee Davis Coffey.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Coffey is survived by two brothers, Kevin Coffey of Boone, and Mike Coffey of Buford, S.C.; and one sister, Lavena Dodd of Asheville. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted Monday afternoon, Feb. 23, 2009, at 3:00 o'clock, at Laurel Fork Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 3:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Dr. Daniel Featherstone. Burial will follow in the Laurel Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, from 1:00 until 3:00 o'clock, at the church, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Obed Day
Mr. Obed Day, 90, of 400 County Line Road, Massapequa, N.Y., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009.
He was born Sept. 7, 1918 in Watauga County, a son of the late Howard and Bertha Coffey Day.
Mr. Day was a retired gym teacher, coach, and drivers' education teacher at East Meadow High School in East Meadow, N.Y., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the South Pacific.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Day of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; one son, Glenn Day and wife, Cathy, of Massapequa; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Shannon of Massapequa. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Suddreth Day; one sister, Dorothy Day Koenig; one brother, Howard M. Day; and a step-brother, Kenneth Cook.
Services will be conducted Friday morning, Feb. 27, 2009, at 11:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Brent Bolick. Burial will follow in the Day Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday morning, from 10:00 until 11:00 o'clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Leona Hubbard Duke
Mrs. Leona Hubbard Duke, 75, of 764 Ridge Road, Boone, died Friday morning, Feb. 20, 2009, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 24, 1934 in White Heath, Ill, a daughter of the late Roy and Inez Kibler Hubbard.
Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Duke; her son, Andrew Blum and wife, Twila, of Paxton, Ill.; her daughter, Jennifer Spitz of Glendale Heights, Ill.; one brother, Edwin Hubbard and wife, Norma, of Mattoon, Ill.; and three granddaughters, Hannah Blum, and Lydia Blum, both of Paxton, and Kelsey Spitz of Glendale Heights.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hubbard.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2009, from 4:00 until 6:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

Mildred Ruth Yates Isaacs
Mrs. Mildred Ruth Yates Isaacs, 87, of 791 Rubin Walker Road, Vilas, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 5, 1921 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late David Alexander Yates and Ann Smith Yates.
Mrs. Isaacs was a homemaker and a member of Baird's Creek Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, James C. Isaacs; three sons, Jimmy Isaacs and wife, Carol, of Boone, Roger Isaacs and wife, Kim, of Vilas, and Jerry Isaacs and wife, Robbie, of Gainesville, Ga.; one daughter, Shirley Ward of Pickens, S.C.; three granddaughters, Heather Hodges of the home, Brianna Shephard and husband, Alvin, of Elizabethtown, N.C., and Joanna Lane Isaacs of Boone; six grandsons, James William Hodges of the home, Michael Isaacs and wife, Melissa, of Gainesville, Ga., Billy Ward and wife, Marty, of Pickens, S.C., Dustin Isaacs and wife, Lori, of Vilas, Benton Isaacs of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Dillon Isaacs of Zionville; two brothers, Bennie Yates and Richard Yates, both of Boone; and one sister, Lois Rominger of Boone. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Harold Isaacs, Kent Isaacs, and Johnny Isaacs; two daughters, Barbara Isaacs, and Debbie Isaacs Hodges; and two sisters, Eva Yates and Emma Lou Hartley.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2009, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were the Rev. Carl Johnson and the Rev. Kenny Newberry. Burial followed in Baird's Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Steven Ashley Robinson
Mr. Steven Ashley Robinson, 31, of 120 Hanging Rock Estates Road, Banner Elk, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at his home.
He was born May 20, 1977 in York, Pa., a son of Michael L. Robinson and Kathy S. Kaczmarczyk.
Mr. Robinson was a real estate broker for Fields and Company Real Estate in Linville, N.C.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Robinson is survived by his step-mother, Anne Robinson of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, James Michael Robinson of Creedmore, and Charles Brian Robinson of Virginia Beach; and his step-grandparents, Norman and Carolyn Arthur of Virginia Beach.
There will be no services.

Charles Edward ‘Charlie’ Wallace
Mr. Charles Edward “Charlie” Wallace, 58, of US 421 North, Vilas, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 20, 2009 at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born May 10, 1950 in Watauga County, a son of the late James Kermit Wallace and Margaret Donnelly Wallace.
Mr. Wallace was retired from BB & T and had worked in the banking industry for 35 years with Northwestern Bank, Southern National and BB & T. He was the owner of Vilas Truck and Equipment and Vilas Car Wash. Charlie was a Christmas tree farmer, a cattle farmer, and partner in G & W Farms and also a builder. He served his country in the National Guard and was a member of Sutherland United Methodist Church. Charlie was a man of many accomplishments who loved his family and his community.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Wallace; two sons, C. Darren Wallace and wife, Anna Maria, of Boone, and J. Daniel Wallace of Vilas; one step-daughter, Shelly Hughes and husband, Tommy, of Hickory; his mother, Margaret Wallace of Vilas; three brothers, Jerry Wallace and wife, Peggy, of Creston, Scott Wallace of Vilas, and Doug Wallace and wife, Mitzi, of Boone; three grandchildren, Carnie, Lillie and Wyatt Wallace of Boone; and three step-grandsons, Austin, Dallas and Josh of Hickory; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kermit Wallace.
Memorial services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 5:30 at Henson’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Ricky Mitchell and the Rev. A. B. Weaver.

Roy Richard Winkler
Mr. Roy Richard "Dickie" Winkler, 66, of 141 Accipiter Lane, Boone, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at his home.
He was born June 19, 1942, a son of the late Stewart and Ruth Hollars Winkler.
Mr. Winkler was a retired auto body repairman for Eric Miller Body Shop.
Survivors include one daughter, Mariette Lisk and husband, Kenneth, of Boone; two grandsons, Ean Lisk of Boone, and Brooks Ruppert of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Brittnei Ruppert of Winston-Salem; and two brothers, William Winkler, Sr. of Blowing Rock, and Ricky Hight of Okeechobee, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Rene' Ruppert; and one brother, Jack Winkler.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday evening, Feb. 25, 2009, at 7:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Delmar James.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6:00 until 7:00 o'clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
