Fast start carries Pioneers
If Watauga boys basketball coach Rob Sanders could just bottle the formula that got the Pioneers their fast start against Wilkes Central, he’d make a fortune. Watauga took an 11-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back in its 70-63 victory over Wilkes Central at Lentz-Eggers Gym Friday night. VALDESE — Watauga’s swimming teams, still in the process of taking final exams, sent a scaled down version into their meet with Draughn, South Caldwell and East Burke last week.

Watauga’s boys basketball team got off to a fast start in the Northwestern 4-A Conference race by beating South Caldwell 74-48 Friday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym.

ASU captures second title
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In less than three months, Appalachian State’s cycling team has captured its second national title by winning the Division II USA Cycling Collegiate Cyclocross National Championships Dec. 14.

Mountaineers shelled early by ’Cats
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It didn’t seem to matter where Kentucky played Appalachian State. It could have been in the Wildcats’ true old Kentucky home of Rupp Arena, the Mountaineers’ home, the Holmes Center or on Planet Hollywood.


Meeks lights up ASU
