past Watauga 39-33

Ashe County edged Watauga 39-33 in wrestling Monday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym.

Watauga got pinfall victories from Jason Wood at 130 pounds and from Nathan Jackson at 189 pounds. Wood beat Kegan Blevins by pinning him at the 1:59 mark of their match.

Jackson got his victory at the 2:30 mark of his match by pinning Andrew Russell.

Watauga stayed close to Ashe County after Taylor Klutz received a forfeit victory. But Ashe started putting together victories and forfeits in the middle weights, which was too much for Watauga to overcome in the team totals. Ashe’s William Gentry beat William Pinkerton 8-3 at 140 pounds, and Aaron Scott got a forfeit win.

Ashe County’s Antonio Barrientos added a close 7-5 victory over Jacob Gilliam at 152 pounds, and Dalton Lewis added another forfeit win at 160 pounds. Jesse Carpenter did the same at 171 pounds.

At 285 pounds, Ashe County’s Zachery Caffey beat Watauga’s Nathan Cable 10-3.

Watauga got forfeit wins at 103 and 112 pounds. At 119 pounds, Ethan Henson beat Robert Blevins 5-3, but Ashe County’s Logan Orr won his match at 125 by pinfall.
