invade The Rock
It seems that when Armanti Edwards reaches the playoffs, he is playing his best football. Last week , in a 37-21 win over South Carolina State, Edwards passed for an Appalachian State record 433 yards. While the Mountaineersf running game stumbled a bit, Edwards created havoc in the Bulldogsf secondary with his left arm, tossing touchdown passes of 6, 27, 2 and 33 yards.


Apps outlast Furman
GREENVILLE, S.C. \ Josh Hunter led Appalachian State to a 65-60 come-from-behind victory at Furman in the Mountaineersf first Southern Conference game Wednesday.

App tackles face tough DE tandem
While itfs likely that most people Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium will be watching Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards, or maybe one of the Mountaineersf several other weapons on offense, two individuals face what could be their biggest challenge of the season.

Pioneers fall to N. Wilkes, Ashe
Some losses are a bit more disappointing than others. Watauga boys basketball coach Rob Sanders used his Pioneers setbacks to Ashe County and North Wilkes as examples. Sanders felt his team played well in its 68-52 loss to Ashe County Tuesday at Lentz-Eggers Gym.


WHS girls belt Vikings
It took exactly one night for Watauga to get over a loss to rival Ashe County.

Longhorns win grid title
The Watauga County Longhorns recreational football team recently completed an undefeated season.

Linville named All-State
North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) seniors Mark Linville and Graham Mulvaney on Tuesday were named to the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association (NCSCA) all-state team.


Former ASU standout Jackson may be inactive
When Tampa Bay makes the trip to charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers for first-place in the NFC South Division Monday night, former Appalachian State receiver Dexter Jackson will be with them.

Watauga basketball teams were swept by Ashe County Tuesday night.

Edwards up for Payton Award

At the beginning of the football season, there was some talk about Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards being a Heisman Trophy candidate.

Eagles fly pass App State
STATESBORO, Ga. — A run late in the first half proved to be the difference as Appalachian State’s women's basketball team fell 69-53 to Georgia Southern in the Mountaineers’ Southern Conference opener Monday at Hanner Fieldhouse.

Sometimes, a playoff team has to grind out a victory. Commentary: Tough win good for App State

At a quick glance, it looked like Appalachian State had an easy time in beating South Carolina State Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Pioneers hope to return to court
Eventually, Watauga’s basketball teams will play again. Just exactly when that might be is still a mystery.

ASU keeps lead in victory over Camels
This time, Appalachian State would hold on to the big lead it built in the first half. The Mountaineers took a 19-point advantage on Campbell and never let the Camels come completely back in their 79-66 victory Saturday in front of 1,188 at the Holmes Center.

Barbour claims All-South recognition
CHARLOTTE — Watauga’s Hannah Barbour finished fifth in the freshman/sophomore race and was the second freshman to cross the finish line in the Footlocker Cross Country Championships Saturday at McAlpine Park.

Courman keeps key drive alive with catch
It might be the play of the year for Appalachian State. It was certainly the play of the day Saturday.
