Gerald David Bare
Mr. Gerald David Bare, 55, of Grandfather Road, Banner Elk, the Foscoe community, died Wednesday morning, August 20, 2008, at the Davant Extended Care & Rehabilitation in Blowing Rock.
He was born August 29, 1952 in Avery County, a son of the late Robert H. Bare and Wilma Shook Bare.
Mr. Bare was a carpenter.
Surviving are his mother, Wilma Shook Bare; four brothers, Donald Bare and wife, Catherine, Bob Bare and Rick Bare, all of the Foscoe community, and Steve Bare of Detroit, Mich.; and two sisters, Colleen Bare of the Foscoe community and Marleen Bare of Bellbrook, Ohio. He is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, including four nephews, Rob, Michael, Chris and Shane Bare; and three special cousins, Sandra Shook, Bob Shook and Kathy Cannon.
There will be no services.

Walton S. Cole
Mr. Walton S. Cole, 87, of 171 Woodland Drive, Boone, died Wednesday morning, August 6, 2008, at Blowing Rock Hospital.
He was born June 24, 1921, in Rosemark, Tenn., a son of the late John Robinson Cole, Sr. and Mary Cassena Smith Cole.
Mr. Cole was a retired music professor for 34 years at Appalachian State University. He was a graduate of Southwestern in Memphis, Tenn., and the University of Arizona in Tucson. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a Link Trainer Instructor and a Tail Gunner in a B-17. Mr. Cole was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ginger Cole Brewer and husband, Tom, of Hickory, and Melanie Cole and husband, Jim, of West Rupert, Vermont; four grandchildren, Ashley Cole Brewer, Samuel Smith Cole, Nathaniel Morton Cole, and Lily Alva Cole.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alva White Cole; and one brother, John Robinson Cole, Jr.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday afternoon, August 25, 2008, at 4:30, at Grace Lutheran Church in Boone. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Smith and Pastor Sarah Lang.
The family will receive friends, from 3:30-4:30, at the church, prior to the service.

Roxanne Potter Robinson
Mrs. Roxanne Potter Robinson, 52, of Elkton, Md., died Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
She was born in Elkton, Md., on Jan. 28, 1956, the daughter of James M. Potter, Sr. of Elkton, formerly of Boone, and the late Josephine Main Potter.
Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker. She had attended Watauga Baptist Church in Foscoe, N.C. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren, and working on the computer.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Rodney Robinson, Sr.; a daughter, Rachael Robinson of Elkton, Md.; grandchildren, Lauren R. Robinson, Rodney Robinson, III, and Jesse Veasey, Jr.; siblings, Jerry Potter, Sue Butler, both of Elkton, Md.; James M. Potter, Jr., of West Jefferson, N.C.; and Peggy Ellis of the Foscoe community; and half-sisters, Eulene Head of Newark, Dela., and Maxine Ross of Bowling Green, Ky.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her son, Rodney Robinson, Jr.
Services will be held at 8 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2008, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, Md., where family and friends may call after 6 p.m. Interment will be private.

Louise Watson Greene
Mrs. Louise Watson Greene, 79, of Morganton Blvd., Lenoir, passed away Friday, August 15, 2008, at Lenoir Healthcare Living Center.
She was born Nov. 6, 1928 in Watauga County, to the late Ralph Watson and Thelma Greene Watson.
Mrs. Greene was a member of Stony Fork Baptist Church in Watauga County. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her son, Arlie J. Greene and wife, Brenda, of Lenoir; her daughters, Judy Warren and Peggy Vines, both of Lenoir; her grandchildren, Leslie Vines, Todd Allen Greene, Cindy Kincaid, Matthew Warren and Joseph Warren; her great-grandchildren, Seth Mitchell, Chance Mitchell, Cody Beane, Kaytlin Beane, Gabrielle Greene and Madison Greene; her brothers, Houston R. Watson and wife, Shirley, of Taylorsville and Bill H. Watson of Lenoir; and her sisters, Melba Carlton of Lenoir, Jackie Watts of Kentucky, Lula Hines and husband, Don, of Granite Falls, Mary Miller and husband, Reece, of Hickory, and Dorothy Carson and husband, William, also of Hickory.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Elmer Greene; her son, Samuel Steve Greene; three brothers; and two sisters.
Graveside services were held Sunday, August 17, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Keith Felts officiating.

Jack Garland Hagaman
Mr. Jack Garland Hagaman, 58, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away Saturday, August 16, 2008, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 3, 1950, in Watauga County, to Nellie Wilson Hagaman and the late John Hagaman.
Mr. Hagaman was known by his business, Hagaman Lawn Service. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Zionville.
Survivors include his son, Justin Hagaman of Boone; his mother, Nellie Wilson Hagaman of Zionville, N.C.; very special friend and caregiver, Jenny Ward; step-daughters, Tina Hicks and Ronnie, Tammy Dunn and husband, Danny, Jennifer Lewis, and Amanda Gentry and husband, Paul, all of Mountain City; step-sons, Brandon McGinnis of Tacoma, Wash., and Jeff Denney and wife, Verna, of Mountain City; step-granddaughter, Alli McGinnis; sisters, Betty Greer and Margaret Sipe, both of Zionville, N.C., Janice Ritenour and husband, Don, of Springfield, Va., and Barbara McElyea and husband, Johnny, of Zionville, N.C.; brothers, Royce Hagaman and wife, Susan, of Charlotte; James D. Hagaman and wife, Mayselle, of Zionville, N.C., Jerry Hagaman and wife, Robin, of South Carolina, Dave Hagaman of Sugar Grove, N.C. and Terry Hagaman and wife, Sherry, of Forest City, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and his many friends from Hardee’s and Lois’ and around town.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Mountain City Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor David Bentley and the Rev. James D. Hagaman officiating. Music will be provided by Lois Dunn and Kenny Price.

Hans Gerhard Heymann
Dr. Hans Gerhard Heymann, 92, died at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley of Newton, N.C., on August 16, 2008, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Dr. Heymann was born Dec. 21, 1915, in Berlin, Germany.
He graduated with a PhD in English and History magna cum laude from the University of Frankfurt, Germany. Dr. Heymann was a German prisoner of war during World War II, working at Reynold’s Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, at which time he made lasting friendships which later precipitated his immigrating to Hickory in 1953. He and his family became naturalized citizens of the U.S.A. in 1958. He accepted a position at Lenoir-Rhyne College where he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of English, Speech and Dramatic Arts and helped establish an English Honors Program. He served there until 1969 at which point he accepted a position at Appalachian State University as Professor of English and Director of English Honors Program.
Dr. Heymann received many honors and awards during his career. He was recognized with the Outstanding Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching at ASU. He was also awarded the Tarheel Pin by Governor Luther Hodges for his efforts to establish trade relationships between North Carolina and Germany. He was further honored with the Distinguished Service Cross First Class, by President Gustav Heinemann of West Germany for these efforts. Governor James B. Hunt also honored him with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine as “one of North Carolina’s outstanding citizens.”
Dr. Heymann was active in Rotary International and was a Charter Member of the Boone Chapter of the American Field Service.
Survivors include his wife, Christa E. Heymann of Newton; sons and daughters-in-law, Hans P. and Jane Heymann of Catawba, Harald O. and Karen Heymann of Apex; grandchildren, Amy and Cliff Singleton of Statesville, Gavin and Anne Heymann of Durham, and Wesley Heymann of Chapel Hill; and great-granddaughter, Ella Singleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.
The family appreciates the compassionate service provided by the staff and caregivers at Abernethy Laurels and the Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley.
A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon at 4 p.m., August 18, 2008, at Spirit Place Chapel at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service.

Lana Greene Lynch
Mrs. Lana Greene Lynch, 68, of Conover, N.C., a devoted mother and friend, she enjoyed entertaining and helping others and was beloved by the entire community.
She was born May 17, 1940, in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Woodrow Jennings Greene and Edith Wilson Greene.
Mrs. Lynch was a graduate of Hudson High School in Hudson, N.C. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Newton, N.C., where she was the manager of the church kitchen and was a member and pianist for the Parker Sunday School Class. She had worked for First National Bank, was the former office manager for Catawba Radiology, and had been the club manager for Catawba Country Club from 1980-1985. In 1985, she became the co-founder and co-owner of L & L Catering Co., which she operated for over 22 years. Mrs. Lynch was also an avid bridge player.
Survivors include sons, Kyle J. Lynch of Newton, N.C., and W. Barrett Lynch of Mt. Airy, N.C.; a niece, Sabrina Townsend and husband, David, of Lenoir, N.C.; and a great-niece, Jessica Rae Townsend of Lenoir, N.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Greene Crouse; and two brothers, Tony Greene and Woody Greene.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, N.C. The Rev. Daniel G. Martin and the Rev. Amy Freeze will officiate. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, N.C.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, N.C.

Dayton Odell Teague
Mr. Dayton Odell Teague, 67, of Park Street, Boone, died Friday, August 15, 2008, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born May 12, 1941 in Watauga County, a son of Gladyce Hayes Teague and the late Odell Teague.
Mr. Teague was a retired employee of Trailway Laundry and Cleaners in Boone.
Survivors include his mother, Gladyce Hayes Teague of Boone; one brother, David G. Teague and wife, Carol, of Boone; one sister, Bonnie Hamby and husband, Phil, of Lenoir; three nephews, Mike Teague and wife, Nancy, of Boone, Chris Teague and wife, Karen, of Creedmore, and Shane Hamby of Lenoir; and one niece, Shannon Hamby of Lenoir. He is also survived by six great-nephews and two great-nieces.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, August 17, 2008, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were the Rev. Burl Greer and the Rev. Zane Tester. Burial followed in Westview Baptist Church Cemetery.
