Mrs. Ruth Fletcher Ballard, 86, of Cecil Miller Road, Boone, N.C., died Tuesday, August 5, 2008.
She was born August 31, 1921, to Troy and Ida Robinson Fletcher.
Mrs. Ballard was a member of Perkinsville Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Surviving are her grandson, Reed Brown and wife, Tracy, of Boone; one son-in-law, David Brown of Boone; one step-daughter, Mary Layne McRae and husband, Cameron, of Springfield, Va.; and two grandchildren, Tripp and Keegan Brown of Boone.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosalind Covington Brown; her first husband, Rev. John Winfred Covington; and her second husband, T. R. Ballard; her parents, Troy and Ida Robinson Fletcher; and three sisters, Ethel Greene, Loye McGuire, and Ruby Davis.
Services will be conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock at Perkinsville Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Harold Bennett. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens in Boone.

Richard ‘Zeb’ Dollars
Mr. Richard “Zeb” Dollars, 73, of 117 Archway Drive, Vilas, died Tuesday morning, August 5, 2008, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born June 7, 1935 in Watauga County, a son of the late George and Frances Tester Dollars.
Mr. Dollars was a retired, self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Dollars; one daughter, Vicki Johnson and husband, Bobby, of Sugar Grove; one son, Rusty Dollars of the home; three sisters, Veralee Robbins and husband, Bill, Maryann Winkler and husband, Roger, all of Lenoir, and Rebbecca Presnell and husband, Alvin, of Butler, Tenn.; four brothers, Bud Dollars and wife, Joyce, of Vilas, David Dollars and wife, Jean, of Meat Camp, Raymond Dollars and wife, Carol, of Triplett, and Arnold Dollars and wife, Mattie, of Lenoir; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Isaacs; and his very special friends, Mandy, Andy, and Alex Pennestri of Foscoe. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Dollars and Tommy Dollars.
Services were conducted Thursday afternoon, August 7, 2008, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were the Rev. Harvey Bauman and the Rev. Eric Cornett. Burial followed in Piney Grove Cemetery.

Mr. McDonald Dotson, 87, of Deerfield Road, Boone, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation.
He was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Watauga County, to Alfred Dotson and Margie Robbins Dotson
Mr. Dotson was a member of Friendship Methodist Church, an avid golfer, served in the Navy, and retired from Blue Ridge Electric after many years working in Sparta and Boone.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Phyllis H. Dotson; two sons, Reyd Dotson and wife, Sandra, of Golden, Colo. and Keith Dotson and friend, April Pardue, of Mountain City, Tenn.; one sister, Minnie Williams and husband, Gail, of Boone; two brothers, Bob Dotson and wife, Dolly, of Kannapolis, N.C. and J. D. Dotson and wife, Deanna, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Dotson of Boone, Grace Fabisak of San Diego, Calif.; Rena Davis of Albuquerque, N.M. and Pat Willetts of Greensboro, N.C.; one granddaughter, Annika Dotson of Golden, Colo.; a special niece, Jane Parker and husband, Butch, of Boone and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Dotson and Margie Robbins Dotson; two sisters, Louise Austin and Jean Cook; and four brothers, Bill, Jess, Herbert and Johnny Dotson
Services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. James Darnell of Independence, Va., Dr. Rev. Sonny Younce of Boone, N.C., and Kimberly Parker, his great-niece, of Clarkston, Ga. Burial will be private.

David Albert Jones
Mr. David Albert Jones, 22, of Lenoir, died Saturday, August 2, 2008.
He was born March 20, 1986 in Caldwell County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Jones of the home.
Mr. Jones attended Hibriten High School and enjoyed playing basketball. He was a member of Blessed Hope Advent Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Calvin Jones of the home; his maternal grandparents, Carl and Jewell Lewis of Boone; paternal grandmother, Lura Mae Jones of Lenoir; three uncles, Donnie Jones and wife, Rita, of Lenoir; Mickey Jones and wife, Raneta, of Granite Falls; Jeff Lewis and wife, Sherry, of Salisbury; and one aunt, Tammy Clark Jones of Lenoir.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul Albert Jones; one uncle, Dickey Jones; and one aunt, Connie Kirby.
A celebration of life was held 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2008, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Service with the Rev. Rodney Raby and the Rev. Charlie Woodring officiating. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, in the Boones Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas Phillips, 65, of Zionville, died Tuesday evening, August 5, 2008, at his home.
He was born April 30, 1943 in Ashe County, a son of the late Charlie and Hazel Main Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was an automotive assembler for General Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Hilton Phillips; his children, Cyndi, Joseph, and Barbara Phillips of Deleware; three sisters, Virginia Mosley and husband, John, of Califer, N.J., Linda Seatz and husband, Bobby, of Todd, and Sue Culbreth and husband, Red, of Fayetteville; four brothers, Glenn Phillips and wife, Patsy, of Colora, Md., Earl Phillips and wife, Edith, of Newton, Leroy Phillips and wife, Charlotte, of Glendale Springs, and Fred Phillips and wife, Jane, of Todd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Phillips.
Services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, August 10, 2008, at 3:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 2:00 until 3:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Miller. Burial will follow in the Holman Family Cemetery.

William ‘Bill’ Clarence Bramble
Mr. William “Bill” Clarence Bramble, 80, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died August 2, 2008 in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Federalsburg, Md.
Mr. Bramble grew up in Maryland during the depression, where he worked as a farm hand. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona and received a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Mexico City College. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1983, moving here from Miami, Fla.
He was a Marketing Director for Ralston Purina International for 33 years. During his employment with Purina, he was named Vice President of the Mexican subsidiary at the age of 31.
Survivors include his wife, Celia Nunez de Bramble, of Panama City Beach; a son, Bill Bramble of Hallandale, Fla.; a daughter, Celia Ann Duncan and husband, Rob, of Panama City Beach; four grandchildren, Robin Duncan, Jonathan Duncan, Christopher Duncan, and Sarah Duncan; a sister, Peggy Williamson and husband, Lee, of Seaford, Dela.; a nephew, Alan; and four nieces, Anne, Brenda, Marsha and Janis.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Bramble; two sisters, Rebecca Bramble and Ruth Hardaway; and a brother, James Bramble.
Memorial funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral services.

Eric Mark Coffey
Mr. Eric Mark Coffey, 44, of Blowing Rock, died Saturday, August 2, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 21, 1964, in Bristol, Va., a son of Vera Cook Coffey and the late Robert “Bob” Coffey.
Mr. Coffey enjoyed a career in masonry construction where he was considered by many a master stone mason. He enjoyed guitar, fishing, the outdoors, snow skiing and rocks of all kinds. He had a great passion and love for his family and friends, and was a member of Middle Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Vera Cook Coffey of Hickory; one sister, Mrs. Vickie Norris and husband, Dan, of Boone; two brothers, Ricky Coffey and wife, Debbie, of Boone, and Kevin Coffey and wife, Nancy, of Morganton; a number of nieces and nephews, Misty Davis, Robbie Coffey, Matthew Norris, Natalie Coffey, Ashley Norris, Brandon Coffey and Lauren Coffey. He is also survived by a great-niece and great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" Coffey; his grandparents, Herman and Hildred Church Coffey and Astor and Louise Howell Cook.
Graveside services and burial will be conducted Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock at Boone Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Blowing Rock. Officiating will be the Rev. John Fitzgerald.

Herman Carlock ‘Carl’ Greene
Mr. Herman Carlock "Carl" Greene, 77, of 140 Cumquat Road Northwest, Lake Placid, Fla., a summer resident of Salisbury, N.C., and a former resident of Linville Creek Road, Vilas, died Saturday afternoon, August 2, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born April 12, 1931 in Watauga County, a son of the late Herman Lawton and Pearl Henson Greene.
Mr. Greene was a professional baseball player for 20 years with the Atlanta Braves organization, and then was a baseball scout for the Montreal Expos, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, and finally retired with the LA Dodgers. He was inducted in into the Professional Baseball Scouting Hall of Fame in 1994 and received the "Scout of the Year" award in 2004 at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Md.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Love Greene; two sons, William "Bill" Greene, and Randy Carl Greene; two daughters, Teresa J. Greene, and Carla S. Greene; two grandchildren, Coty Carl Greene, and Kenneth Shane Greene; one daughter-in-law, Sabrina Mattox Greene; and two brothers, Ned P. Greene and wife, Mary Jo, and James H. Greene.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 6, 2008, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. John Linville Greene
Mr. John Linville Greene, 81, died Friday, August 1, 2008, at Burke Hospice following a period of declining health. 
He was born in Watauga County on May 17, 1927, a son of the late Leonard and Maggie Watson Greene.
Mr. Greene retired from Broughton Hospital after 30 years of service. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Flavia Logan York Greene; a daughter and her husband, Maria and Chuck Lowdermilk, of Morganton; a sister, Blanche Shoemake, of Boone; and grandchildren, Sara and Paul Benfield, of Morganton.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Gantt Greene; four brothers; and two sisters.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer Murdock officiating. Burial followed at Burke Memorial Park.

Mrs. Josephine Glenn Guy Greene, 79, of Highway 321 North, Sugar Grove, died Monday morning, August 4, 2008, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born Nov.17, 1929 in Watauga County, to Ernest McKinley and Elsie Ella Glenn.
Mrs. Greene was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and she displayed her Christian life by the way she lived. She was a housewife and homemaker.
Surviving are her husband of 32 years, Ralph Jerry Greene; two daughters, Billie Greene and husband, Larry, of Fleetwood, and Ella Jean Harris and husband, Rev. Vinson Stanley Harris, of North Wilkesboro; two sisters, Katie Barnes of Sugar Grove and Marie Trivette of Rominger; one step-daughter, Dena Wolfe and husband, Terry, of Zionville; three step-sons, Jerry Greene and wife, Debra, and Tony Greene and wife, Linda, all of Sugar Grove, and Robert Greene and wife, Janet, of Vilas. Five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Renzo Guy; two sisters, Patsy Winkler and Rachel Glenn; and two brothers, Buddy and Baxter Glenn.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Antioch Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Carl Wilson. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1 until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at the church. Burial will follow in the Guy-Ward Cemetery.

Vaughn H. Carroll
Mr. Vaughn H. Carroll, 78, passed away on Saturday morning, August 2, 2008, at the Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
He was born Jan. 20, 1930 in Watauga County, a son of the late Virgil and Onnie Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was Baptist by faith and had retired after working many years with the Crestline Furniture Company in Valdese.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Greer Carroll; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Vaughn Glenn and Linda Triplett Carroll of Lenoir, and Ronnie Duane Carroll of Morganton; three brothers, Roy Forrest Carroll of Claremont, N.C., Grady Olen Carroll of Catawba, N.C., and Stanley Bruce Carroll of Boone, N.C.; four sisters, Velma Carroll Anderson of Elkton, Md., Marie Carroll Moretz of Churchville, Md., Dorothy Carroll Williams of Bel Air, Md., and Eva Carroll Keller of Boone; one grandson, Bradley Scott Carroll; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Lynn Carroll; a beloved pet, Bootsie; a sister-in-law, Betty Carroll; a brother-in-law, Mark Greer and wife, Marie; a very special care giving niece, Brenda Goble; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was born May 23, 1939 in Johnson City, Tenn., a daughter of the late George Frank and Mildred Howser Bowling.
Mrs. Earp was retired owner and operator of Jerrie’s Drapery Shop and a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Kim Jones and husband, Paul, of Boone; two sons, Chris Earp and wife, Michele, of Deep Gap, and Jackie Wayne Richardson and wife, Maria, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Beth Jones of Boone, and Jennifer Todd of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandsons, David Richardson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Zachary Jones of Boone, Isaac Earp and Noah Earp, both of Deep Gap; and one sister, Carolyn Elliott of Yuma, Ariz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Earp.

Mrs. Geraldine “Geri” Moody Limbacher, 69, of Ray Brown Road, died Sunday morning, August 3, 2008 at home.
She was born June 18, 1939 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Ernest and Anne Cutty Moody.
Mrs. Limbacher was retired as a bookkeeper with GDS and Ed Hardy Disposal Service. She was a member of Perkinsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Limbacher; three sons, Tim Limbacher and Chris Limbacher of Boone, and Steve Limbacher of Blowing Rock; two brothers, Robert “Bob” Moody and wife, Marie, of Blowing Rock and Mike Moody and wife, Angela, of Southern Pines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Anne Cutty Moody.

Mary Frances White McCulley
Mrs. Mary Frances White McCulley, 88, originally from Statesville, entered her new life at Blowing Rock Extended Care Center, at 2:00 p.m. on August 2, 2008.
She was born in Statesville in the home on August 24, 1920. She was the youngest daughter of the late Lawrence Oxford White and Effie Amanda Shinn White and the sole surviving member of her family.
Mrs. McCulley was a homemaker, educator and gardener. She married the late Rev. Robert William McCulley, Sr., of Lenoir on October 22, 1943.
Surviving are her son, Robert William McCulley, Jr. of Douglas, Ga.; her daughters, Emily McCulley of Hendersonville, N.C. and Leslie McCulley Greene of Stoney Fork, N.C.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Funeral Home Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Belleview Cemetery at 10:15 a.m. with Robert William McCulley, Jr. officiating.

Wilmer D. Moretz
Mr. Wilmer D. Moretz, 87, of 586 Hardaman Circle, Boone, died Sunday morning, August 3, 2008, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Watauga County, a son of the late Walter Scott Moretz, Sr. and Winnie Snow Lookabill Moretz.
Mr. Moretz was a retired dairy farmer and a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Muller Moretz; two daughters, Patricia Weaver and husband, Roy, and Sandra E. Moretz, all of Boone; two sons, Thomas Moretz and wife, Jan, of Boone, and Dr. Theodore Moretz and wife, Lois, of Concord; one brother, Scott Moretz and wife, Wilma, of Deep Gap; two sisters-in-law, Cora Lee Moretz of Deep Gap, and Irene Zuaboni of Wilmington, N.C.; four grandsons, Jacob Moretz of Lenoir, Joshua Moretz of Boone, James Moretz, and Carson Moretz, both of Concord; and one great-grandson, Hayden Moretz of Lenoir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Austin Moretz.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday morning, August 5, 2008, at 11:00 o'clock, at Grace Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Sarah Lang and Pastor John Bollinger. Entombment will follow in the Grace Lutheran Church Columbarium.
The family will receive friends Tuesday morning, from 10:00 until 11:00 o'clock, at the church, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Watauga Chapter, 1006 Briarwood Lane, Boone, N.C. 28607, or to the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund, 115 East King Street, Boone, N.C. 28607.
