sheriff’s reports:

The following are reports from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office.

July 23
Richard Patrick Porter, 42, of 157 Pebble Lane, Todd, was arrested on view on a charge of violating a domestic violence protective order. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center on a 48-hour hold and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 20.

Harassment was reported by a resident of Yonah Court in Boone. The victim reported receiving multiple text messages on a cell phone.

Larceny was reported at a church on the 600 block of the N.C. 105 Bypass. An electric bass guitar, valued at $850, was taken without authority.

July 24
Justin Shaun Danner, 20, of 7240 Old U.S. 421, Zionville, was arrested on view on charges of driving after consuming alcohol while underage, simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and operating a blue light on a vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 2 in lieu of a written promise bond.

Megan Taylor Perry, 18, of 154 Brittany Lane, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of harassing phone calls and communicating threats. She is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 13 in lieu of a written promise bond.


Larceny was reported at a construction site in the Echota development. A stepladder, car battery charger and a hydraulic jack were reported stolen.

July 25
Damage to property was reported at a business on the 100 block of Milton Brown Heirs Road in Boone. A window was damaged by a projectile.


Sean Paul Anding, 27, of 280 Galax Circle, Blowing Rock, was served with two orders for arrest on charges of failure to appear in district court in Harnett and Guilford counties. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Greensboro on Aug. 18 in lieu of a secured $1,000 bond.


Steven Wayne Powers, 55, of 417 Blowing Rock Road, Apt. 3, Boone, was served with two orders for arrest on charges of failure to appear at a scheduled grand jury date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 18 in lieu of a secured $50,000 bond.

Tyler Jordan LaFrance, 18, of Oxford Hunt Drive, Stanley, was served with an order for arrest on charges of first degree burglary and larceny after breaking and entering. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 18 in lieu of a secured $18,000 bond.

Harassment was reported at a school parking lot on Community College Drive in Boone. The victim reported a person verbally harassing them and following them to the parking lot.

July 26
Breaking and entering was reported on the 100 block of Hilltop Drive in Boone. The victim reported the side door of the home had been kicked in.

Damage to property was reported on the 5900 block of Howard’s Creek Road in Boone. A person placed a lighted firework in an electrical box, causing $125 in damage.


Drug usage was reported in a public parking area near State Farm Road in Boone. A person ingested the drug LSD and sought medical attention.


Larceny was reported on the 1900 block of Longhope Road in Todd. The victim reported a person stole a power coupling, valued at $250, and attempted to removed a hot tub.

Gerardo Paz, 34, of 133 Boone Docks St., Apt. 4, Boone, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 2 in lieu of a secured $500 bond.

July 27
An incident of communicating threats was reported at a residence on the 2200 block of Pigeon Roost Road in Banner Elk. The victim reported receiving text messages containing threats against their family.


Anthony Bryce Reid, 23, of 4859 Mayfield Drive, Apt. 6, Granite Falls, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 25 in lieu of secured $500 bond.

July 28
Breaking and entering was reported on the 100 block of Banner Mobile Park Road in Vilas. The victim reported a person entering the home and the victim's bedroom.

Audrey Beshears Schmit, 51, of 346 Daniel Drive, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of simple assault. She is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 3 in lieu of an unsecured $500 bond.

Kenneth E. Hayes, 50, of 756 Hampshire Drive, Gaffney, S.C., was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 24 in lieu of a secured $3,500 bond.


Recovered property was reported in an outbuilding in the 100 block of Oak Grove Road in Boone. A real estate agent reported finding paraphernalia in an outbuilding.

Harassing phone calls were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Presnell School Road. The victim reported repeated unsolicited telephone calls.

Deputies were called to a home on the 300 block of Daniel Drive in Boone. The victim reported a person pushed or kicked open the door of the residence.

July 29
Jason Lynn Brown, 24, of 2146 Silverstone Road, Zionville, was arrested on view on charges of driving while license revoked, no insurance and failure to register vehicle. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 26 in lieu of a secured $1,000 bond.


Stacy E. G. Baird, 29, of 121 Charlie Dancey Road, Zionville, was served with two orders for arrest for failure to appear on charges of misdemeanor probation violation and larceny. She was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 25 in lieu of a secured $16,000 bond.


Stephen Joseph Latoche, 48, of 2387 Georges Gap Road, Vilas, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of possession of cocaine and an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date in Wake County. Latoche was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court in Watauga County on Aug. 20 and in Wake County on Sept. 16 in lieu of secured $2,000 and $500 bonds, respectively.


Fraud via a telephone call was reported by a resident on the 1000 block of Slabtown Road in Zionville.


Vandalism was reported at a construction site on the 200 block of Chimney Rock Lane in Blowing Rock. A person had sprayed paint on the dumpster and the portable toilet.

July 30
Larry Christopher Goodman, 34, of 321 Smokey View Drive, Newland, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of assault of a female, assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 6. Goodman was also served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date in Newland, as well as a criminal summons for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in Avery County. He is scheduled to appear in district court in Newland on Sept. 17 and Sept. 3, respectively.


A hit and run with property damage was reported at a commercial property on the 3800 block of U.S. 321 South in Boone. The victim reported a person ran off the roadway in a vehicle and damaged an open sign, valued at $200.


Larceny was reported at a construction site on the 300 block of Twin Hollows Lane in Vilas. The victim reported a subcontractor removed a generator, valued at $500, from the site after being fired.


Larceny was reported at a business on the 700 block of Mast Gap Road in Sugar Grove. The victim reported one person attempting to distract the businessowner while others stole a four-wheeler from the business.


Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 300 block of New River Heights Drive, Boone. The victim reported a person forcibly entered the home through a downstairs door and stole a stereo and approximately 20 DVDs.


Damage to property was reported at a residence on the 500 block of Oak Grove Road in Boone. The victim reported a person flattened the tires on a vehicle and put sugar in the gas tank.


Larceny was reported at a business on the 5400 block of U.S. 421 north in Vilas. The victim reported parts were removed from a tractor, with a total estimated value of $580.


Burglary and larceny were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Cherry Tree Lane in Banner Elk. The victim reported a person forcibly entered the home and removed multiple items, including children's toys, electronics, home décor and prescription medication.
