sheriff’s reports:

June 21
Thomas Scott Greene, 43, of 324 Bynum Trivette Road, Deep Gap, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of assault on a female. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on July 9.


Tyler Payton Merriman, 21, of 287 Hardin St., Boone, was arrested on view on a charge of resisting, delaying and/or obstructing a public officer. He is scheduled to appear in district court on July 10 in lieu of a written promise bond.

Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 200 block of Newtons Crossing. The victim reported a person entering the home by forcing open a window and removing several tools, with a total value estimated at $2,825.

Travis Gene Belcher, 28, of 150 Martian Lane, Boone, was arrested on view on charges of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting public officer. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on July 23 in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.

June 22
Angel May Newman, 33, of 271 Dell Coffey Road, Boone, was arrested on view on a charge of driving while impaired. She is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 13 in lieu of a written promise bond.

June 23
Susan A. DiCristofano, 41, of 1527 Sparrow Melrose Park, Ill., was arrested on view on a charge of driving while impaired. She is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 13 in lieu of an unsecured $1,000 bond.

Jeffrey Wayne Lipford, 21, 4178 Old U.S. 421 North, Zionville, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of assault on a female. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center on a 48-hour hold and is scheduled to appear in district court on July 10.


Kevin Earl Engel, 48, of 106 Pinnacle Drive, Boone, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date in Lenoir. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in Lenoir district court on Aug. 4 in lieu of a secured $800 bond.


Thomas Burns Shelley III, 24, of 135 Clarence Newton Road, Blowing Rock, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on July 29 in lieu of a secured $1,000 bond.


Larceny of a dog was reported on the 100 block of Ruthies Road in Boone. A black and tan female Doberman, value listed as $500, was reported let out and never returned.


Larceny was reported at a residence on the 1800 block of Vanderpool Road in Vilas. The victim reported a handgun and a diamond ring stolen.


Breaking and entering, larceny and damage to property were reported at a closed business on V L Moretz Road. A redwood copula with a copper roof, a sliding glass door and window, with a total value of $1,100, were reported stolen.

The use of counterfeit currency, a $100 bill, was reported at a convenience store on the 9200 block of U.S. 421 north in Zionville.

Communicating threats and harassing phone calls were reported by a resident of Wagon Wheel Lane in Deep Gap.


Financial card theft was reported at a parking lot on U.S. 321 North. The victim reported a purse and contents were stolen at a yard sale.


A scam was reported by a resident of Old U.S. 421 south in Boone. The victim reported a counterfeit check was received via a UPS account.

June 24
Damage to property was reported on the 1100 block of Rich Mountain Road in Zionville. The victim reported fireworks were detonated in their mailbox, valued at $50.

Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 300 block of Russell Beach Road in Vilas. The victim reported several thousand dollars in cash, a quart jar of quarters, dimes and nickels, and a box of blank checks were stolen.


Breaking and entering and larceny were reported on the 200 block of Fair Oaks Court in Boone. The victim reported a person entered the home through an open window and removed a game console, accessories, games and hair products.


Larceny was reported at a construction site on Twin Hollows Lane. A substantial quantity of lumber and sheeting was reported stolen.

Recovered found property was reported at the Watauga County Swimming Complex. A person reported finding a clear plastic bag containing marijuana in the parking lot.

June 25
Larceny was reported at a residence on David McLean Road in Foscoe. A power carpet stretcher, valued at $700, was reported stolen.


Larceny was reported at a construction site on Nettles Ridge Road. Two extension ladders were reported stolen, with a combined value of $700.

Kenneth Wayne Brown, 38, of 296 Roark Ridge Road, Deep Gap, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of communicating threats. He is scheduled to appear in district court on July 23 in lieu of an unsecured $500 bond.

June 26
Jake Carlton Engle, 21, of 209 Bates Ave., Cherryville, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of communicating threats. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 13 in lieu of a written promise bond.

Richard Patric Porter, 42, of 157 Pebbles Lane, Todd, was arrested on view on a charge of violation of a domestic violence protective order. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on July 23.

Margaret Nicole Jackson, 20, of 2003 Chinabrooke Court, Charlotte, was served with a criminal summons on a charge of assault and battery. She is scheduled to appear in district court on July 23.


Assault on a female was reported on Tarleton Circle in Boone. The victim reported having been strangled and the person biting her face.

Larceny was reported at a business on the 5000 block of U.S. 321 south in Blowing Rock. A person drove away without paying for $70.27 in gasoline.

June 27
False pretenses were reported at an apartment on the 3400 block of U.S. 321 south. The victims reported a landlord could not be found for the return of deposit funds.

Assault was reported at a residence on the 200 block of Monteagle Drive. The victim reported having been punched.


Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Patton Lane. The back door was forcibly entered and a lock box containing prescription medication reported stolen.


Damage to property was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Clyde Townsend Road in Boone. The victim reported a rock wall at the end of the driveway had been struck by a vehicle causing $1,000 in damage.

Thomas Keith Taylor, 47, of 1006 Slabtown Road, Zionville, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of habitual driving while impaired. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug 13 in lieu of a secured $3,000 bond.


Jason Daniel Canter, 24, of 414 Huffman Road, Vilas, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of simple possession of a schedule III controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and felony possession of methamphetamine. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on July 22 in lieu of a secured $2,000 bond.


Crystal Nicole Canter, 21, of 414 Huffman Road, Vilas, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of simple possession of a schedule III controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana up to one half ounce. She was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on July 22 in lieu of a secured $2,000 bond.

June 28
Karan Mashell Calloway, 43, 1263 Berry Road, Banner Elk, was arrested on view on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. She was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center on a 48-hour hold and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 6.


Micheal Raymond Slone, 47, of 2742 U.S. 421 North Apt. A, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of communicating threats and assault on a female. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 13 in lieu of a $500 unsecured bond.


Leslie Marie Pearce, 19, of 156 Banner Mobile Park, Vilas, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. She is scheduled to appear in district court on July 17 in lieu of a $1,000 unsecured bond.


Larceny was reported at a residence on the 200 block of Slabtown Road in Zionville. The victim reported prescription medication stolen.

Larceny was reported at a business on the 5000 block of U.S. 321 south in Blowing Rock. A person drove off without paying for $100.31 in gasoline. Damage to property was reported at a residence on the 300 block of Trivette Branch Road. The victim reported a person removed a water pump line from a creek.


Damage to property was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Dovick Drive in Boone. Three windows were broken on two vehicles.


Assault with a deadly weapon was reported at a residence on the 100 block or Russell Beach Road in Vilas. The victim reported a person throwing a rock which struck them on the head.
