Kenneth Ervin ‘Kenny’ Smith Jr.

Mr. Kenneth Ervin “Kenny” Smith, Jr., 49, of Wayne Laws Road, Butler, Tenn., died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1958 in Cobleskill, N.Y., a son of the late Kenneth Ervin Smith, Sr., and Ruey Bender Smith.
Mr. Smith was employed by Radford Quarries.
Surviving are one daughter, Heather Savannah Smith; five sons, Jessie Dakota Smith, Austin Cheyenne Smith, Kyle Smith, Eric Smith and Scott Smith; his mother, Ruey Gould of Florida; four sisters, Cynthia Jones of New York, Sue Knotts of Florida, Linda Smith of Ohio, and Teresa Smith of New York; and three brothers, Stanley Gould of New York, Walter Smith of Lenoir, and Earl Kusnerak of North Carolina.
Services will be conducted Saturday at noon at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Vernon Eller. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 11 o’clock until noon, one hour prior to the service, at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

David Andrew Seagle
Mr. David Andrew Seagle, 59, of Spencer, N.C., died Monday, July 7, 2008, at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1948 in Watauga County to Kathleen Phillips of Lexington, N.C., and the late Cecil Seagle.
Mr. Seagle was a graduate of Green Valley Elementary School. He worked for Stanley Furniture Company in Lexington, N.C. for nine years as a machine operator. Previously he worked for Cone Mills in Salisbury for almost 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Holshouser Seagle; two step-sons, Andy Christie of Wilmington, N.C. and Michael Christie of Ruby, S.C.; and one step-grandson, Andrew Christie of Wilmington, N.C.; his mother, Kathleen Phillips of Lexington, N.C.; three brothers, John Seagle and wife, Lucy, of Cherryville, N.C., Larry Seagle and wife, Debbie, of Poway, Calif., and Victor Seagle and wife, Tammy, of Conway, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvin and Bessie Seagle and Finley and Bessie Winebarger.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Summersett Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., in the Summersett Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Sam Harvey, Pastor of Christian Baptist Church of Churchland.
Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Clay Greer
Mr. Henry Clay Greer, 82, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008, in the Grace Healthcare Center of Abingdon.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1926, in Vilas, N.C., a son of the late William Henry Greer and Clara Hamby Greer.
Mr. Greer was a former resident of Boone, and was retired from Hammary Furniture Company.
He was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Boone and attended West Lenoir Baptist Church in Lenoir.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William (Judy) Mikeal of Morganton, N.C.; son, Carl Edward Greer and wife, Linda, of Abingdon, Va.; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Bina Worley of Bristol, Va.; Blanche Keith of Bristol, Tenn., and Rosell Murray of Bristol, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie S. Greer.
The family wishes to say special thanks to the employees and residents of Grace Healthcare for their kindness and friendship that was shown to Mr. Greer.
Services were conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2008, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Brown and the Rev. J.C. Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Barbara Sue Harris Johnson
Mrs. Barbara Sue Harris Johnson, 64, of Lester Johnson Road, Vilas, died Saturday morning, July 5, 2008 at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born March 31, 1944 in Bristol, Va.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Carroll Johnson; two daughters, Kelley Triplett and husband, David, and Neeta Clark and husband, Phil, all of Vilas; two grandchildren, Casey Triplett of Morganton and Justin Triplett and his girlfriend, Dana Baber, of Vilas; and one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Triplett, of Vilas.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Julie; one sister, Joyce Brown; and her parents, Solomon Harris and Beryl Greer Harris Hollars.
Graveside services will be private.
Flowers are appreciated or the family suggests memorials to the Watauga County Unit of the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box l903, Boone, N.C. 27607.

Jewell Mae Elrod Seamster
Mrs. Jewell Mae Elrod Seamster, 81, of Lynchburg, Va., died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Guggenheimer Nursing Home.
She was born in Boone, N.C., on March 28, 1927, a daughter of the late Phillip Irvin Elrod and Hazel Martha Lawrence Elrod; and was the widow of William Ashby Seamster.
Mrs. Seamster was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Boone, N.C.
Survivors include four children, James E. Seamster and wife, Belinda, of Richmond, Va.; Karen A. Howard and husband, Dennis, of Hamilton, Ohio; Phillip A. Seamster and wife, Wendy, of Thaxton; and W. Darryl Seamster and wife, Joyce, of Madison Heights; a sister, Nancy E. Davis and husband, Bill, of Lynchburg, Va.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip Henry Elrod and John Lawrence Elrod.
A celebration of Mrs. Seamster’s life and faith was held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2008, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Celebrant Scott Paulette officiating.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1290 Seminole Trail, Suite 2, Charlottesville, Va. 22901.

Lisa Gertie Triplett
Ms. Lisa Gertie Triplett, 39, of Boone, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2008 in Damascus, Va.
She was born in Watauga County, Oct. 28, 1968, a daughter of the late Hilda Hensely and Larnie Triplett.
Ms. Triplett was a Certified Nursing Assistant and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Lindsay Woodring of Boone; five sisters, Rita Miller of Deep Gap, Sharon Winebarger and husband, David, of Deep Gap, Tammy Bryant of Lenoir, Carrie Cornette and husband, Harold, of High Point, and Treva Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven brothers, Lentz Lyda and wife, Audrey, of Granite Falls, J. D. Lyda and Ricky Lyda, also of Granite Falls, Robert Foster and wife, Dee, of Damascus, Josh Triplett of Greeneville, Tenn., Randy Garland of Chapel Hill, and Travis Triplett and wife, Sylvia, of Boone; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two sisters, Janice Martin and Kathy Bedsaul.
Memorial services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Faith Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Sonny Younce. Burial will follow at the Potter-Main Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 1 until 2 o’clock.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the family in care of Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
