Michael Wyant is
new Watauga High
School principal
Michael Wyant, currently the director of high schools, driver’s education and athletics for the Catawba County schools, has been named principal for Watauga High School.
Wyant’s appointment was approved by the Watauga County Board of Education on June 17 and he will begin work at the high school early next month.
He succeeds Angela Quick, who resigned as principal at the high school to take a position as deputy academic officer with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
In addition to one year in his current position with the Catawba County schools, Wyant also served that system for two years as director of middle schools, driver’s education, and athletics.
His other previous school administration experience includes two years as an assistant principal at Hickory High School, approximately four years as an assistant principal at Maiden High School, and three years as principal of CH Tuttle Middle School.
Wyant is not a stranger to Watauga County, having earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Appalachian State University. He is also completing his doctorate in educational leadership at Appalachian.
The appointment of Wyant completes several changes in key leadership personnel at Watauga High School.
Earlier in June, the Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. David Kincaid and Dr. Jeanie Hieronimus-Dillman as assistant principals at the high school.
Kincaid has served as executive administrator with the Scotland County schools since 2000 and has teaching experience at both the high and college levels.
Hieronimus-Dillman has experience as a teacher and counselor and has also served as a lead team teacher, a cheerleading coach, and mentor teacher.
