Pioneers make a call to arms
For the most part, Watauga returns a veteran baseball team for the 2009 season. Several position players return, including All-Northwestern 4-A catcher Adam Church, all-league shortstop Cal Hardee, all-league center fielder Baine Martin, second baseman Chris Shelton, right fielder Trey Lowder, left fielder Austin Story and a host of players who either was in the starting lineup, or were role players last year. Show on App wins Emmy

ATLANTA – Under The Lights: Appalachian State Football — A Date With Destiny, the hour-long documentary produced by FSN South detailing Appalachian State’s historic 34-32 win over Michigan in the 2007 season opener, won an Emmy award on Saturday evening at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Southeast Chapter Emmys banquet in Atlanta.

Boyd, Poulos reach regional
GASTONIA — Ian Boyd and T.J. Poulos won state championships at the North Carolina AAU District and State Championships Saturday and Sunday at Forestview High School.
