Kidd steps down as WHS soccer coach

After 17 years of coaching soccer at Watauga High, Doug Kidd is switching gears. Kidd, a fixture on the sidelines at Jack Groce Stadium since it was built, resigned his post at Watauga to take a job at Swansboro Wednesday.

Ex-Mountaineer heads to Canadian league

Former Appalachian State standout running back Kevin Richardson has signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

 

 

Baird headed to Emory & Henry

Watauga’s Ashlyn Baird had a unique choice to make. She could either accept an offer to play soccer at Lees-McRae College, or she could choose to play basketball at either Barton or Emory & Henry.

Weaver named top regional coach

NEW ORLEANS — For the third time since 1995, Appalachian State’s John Weaver has been named the Southeast Region men’s outdoor track and field Coach of the Year, the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Monday.

Crawdads drop Sunday game, 2-1

Junior League championship: Wendy’s cooks up victory, 11-1

Call it the Battle of the Burgers. Wendy’s and Beef O’Brady’s sparred for the local Junior League Championship game at Optimist Park on Saturday morning with the Wendy’s blue squad grilling the Beef O’ Brady’s green squad 11-1.
