Ricky Allan ‘Rick’ Chamra

Mr. Ricky Allan “Rick” Chamra, 51, of Highland Avenue, Boone, died Tuesday evening, May 27, 2008 at home.
He was born in Cumberland County, a son of Richard Chamra and Frances Holley Starlings.
Mr. Chamra was a graduate of Appalachian State University and was employed by Appalachian Energy. He was a member of the Boone Optimist, Lambda Chi Alpha and United Muffler softball team.
He was active in community events, and a blood donor with the American Red Cross.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Rominger Chamra; two sons, Allan Chamra and wife, Melisha, of Gibsonville, and Zane Chamra and wife, Katie, of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Holly Chamra of Charlotte; one grandson, Kenan Chamra; his mother, Frances Starlings of Fayetteville; and his father, Richard Chamra of Shannon, N.C.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be held Friday evening from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
The family respectfully requests no food or flowers, and suggests memorials to the Boys & Girls Home of N.C., Post Office Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450 or to the Boone Optimist Club Childhood Cancer Program, in care of Ron Kanoy, 543 Dogwood Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.

Walter K. Moyer, Sr.
Mr. Walter K. Moyer Sr., 49, passed away May 24, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Lois Moyer; three sons, Kenneth Michael (Lacy) Moyer, Kevin Mathew (Kelly) Moyer, Walter Kelley (Deanna) Moyer Jr.; daughter, Ketha Dawn Moyer; five grandchildren, Kevin Mathew Moyer Jr., Zayne Alexander Moyer, Layne Nicole Moyer, Rachel Jade Moyer, Summer Grace Moyer; three sisters, Joyce (Adan) Garcia, Patricia Lou (Allen) Baldwin, Katherine Heidi (Ronnie) Poe; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Charles Moyer and Dolores Moyer; and a sister, Dolores Lee Boggs.
The family received friends on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Trevino Funeral Home from 4:-9 p.m. A funeral Chapel service was held at Trevino Funeral Home on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.; cremation to follow.

Mary Robbins Patterson
Mrs. Mary Robbins Patterson, 72, of 5259 Bamboo Road, Boone, died Monday evening, May 26, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 3, 1935 in Richmond County, N.C., a daughter of the late Duke and Mamie Robbins.
Mrs. Patterson was a retired Registered Nurse and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include three sons, Mark Patterson and wife, Connie, of Germantown, Tenn., Tim Patterson and wife, Vicki, of Greensboro, and Scott Patterson and friend, Kevin E. Hubbard, of Boone; one daughter, Tami Patterson Tucker and husband, Marc, of Fayetteville; one daughter-in-law, wife of late son, Michael, Melanie Patterson of Boone; two granddaughters, Meleah Patterson Printz and husband, Sean, of Boone, and Michaela Marie Patterson of Germantown; four grandsons, Stephen Bradley Patterson of Germantown, Matthew Glenn Patterson of Greensboro, William Kyle Tucker, and Michael Stanley Tucker, both of Fayetteville; two brothers, Sam Robbins of Ellerbe, N.C., and Jack Robbins of Tulsa, Okla.; and three sisters, Jean Lee of Greensboro, Peggy Long of Ellerbe, and Barbara Adams of Fayetteville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Patterson; two sons, Michael Patterson, and David Keith Patterson; one sister, Dot Robbins Rummage; and one brother, Larry Albert Robbins.
Services were conducted Thursday afternoon, May 29, 2008, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Thor Stockcamp. Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

Mead Taylor
Mr. Mead Taylor, 80, of 122 Church Hollow Road, Boone, died Monday afternoon, May 26, 2008, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born April 7, 1928 in Watauga County, a son of the late Willie A. and Stella Aldridge Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a retired television repairman and a self-employed nurseryman. He was a member of Foscoe Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Bentley Taylor; two daughters, Jane Ballard and husband, Freddie, of Mountain City, Tenn., and Karen Taylor of Lenoir; one granddaughter, Carrie Jane Isaacs and fiancé, Amos Earp, of Boone; three grandsons, Brian Ballard of Mountain City, Alan Hayslett of Lenoir, and Hank Ballard and friend, Lyndsey Gant, of Boone; two great-grandsons, Kaleb Isaacs, and Quentin Earp, both of Boone; four great-granddaughters, Alana Isaacs of Boone, Mckenzie Ballard, Hope Ballard and Chloie Ballard, all of Mountain City; two sisters, Opal Smith of Burlington, and Levirn Shoffner of Graham; three brothers, Ford Taylor of Boone, Creed Taylor and wife, Maude Ruth, and Denver Taylor and wife, Ann, all of Foscoe; and three sisters-in-law, Della Taylor and Sally Taylor, both of Foscoe, and Susan Varner of Sawmills. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Lester, Rex, Wayne, and Edgar "Tude" Taylor.
Services were conducted Wednesday evening, May 28, 2008, at Foscoe Christian Church. Officiating were Pastor Lance Hostetter, Pastor Ken Caswell, and Pastor Bob Shannon. Graveside services and burial were conducted Thursday morning, May 29, 2008, at Foscoe Cemetery.

James B. Ward

Mr. James B. Ward passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Hospice Legacy House in Ocala, Fla.
He was born in Samson, Ala., on Jan. 2, 1928.
Mr. Ward served in the United States Air Force from 1946-1949 as a radio operator on the B-17. Planes were Jim’s life from flying in the military, flying a private Cessna 152, to flying radio controlled airplanes where he lived at On Top of the World. He was a member of the RC Flyers Club, Southern Club, and also a member of the Computer Club.
He worked in the automotive field throughout his life, mostly in Florida. He retired in Homestead, Fla. in 1992. After surviving Hurricane Andrew, he and his wife, Linda, moved to Boone, N.C. In Boone, Jim wasn’t ready to settle down and relax so he went back to work with his brother-in-law, John Owens of Owens Construction. He loved to dabble in things and was a member of the Greenway Baptist Church in Boone, N.C.
Mr. Ward made many friends in many places, but he always considered Florida his home and in 2004, Jim and Linda moved back to Ocala, Fla. Jim lived life to the fullest. He became a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala, where he served as an usher.
Survivors include his wonderful wife of 31 years, Linda Ward; daughter, Karen Cassels and husband, John, of Okeechobee, Fla.; son, Tim and wife, Brandy, of Arlington, Wash.; son, Kevin, of Homestead, Fla.; sister, Edith Owens and husband, John, of Ocala, Fla.; step-sisters, Vera Peterson of Dade City, Fla.; Nade and husband, Hub, of Dade City, Fla.; and Willie Mitchell of Samson, Ala.; step-daughter, Sharon Bridges and husband, Carl, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and step-son, Steven Elwell of Vernon Hills, Ill.; along with five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Mitchell and step-father John Ward.
He possessed many lovable qualities of mind and heart. He has made many friends throughout his life and all will miss him dearly. He was a great father to Linda’s children; Sharon and Steven. He continued telling stories throughout the years of his time in the military and enjoyed many things including his retirement with Linda and his lovable dachshund named Rusty. When asked, he said he had no regrets and had lived a wonderful life doing the things that made him happy.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Ocala located at 2801 SE Maricamp Road, Ocala, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Legacy House in Ocala, Fla. at 9505 SW 110th Street, Ocala, Florida 34481.

Geneva Woodring
Ms. Geneva Woodring, 62, of 316 Ransey Woodring Road, Boone, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 10, 1946 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Walter Ransey and Vesta Phillips Woodring.
Ms. Woodring was a homemaker and a member of Howard’s Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Edith Tester of Boone, Shirley Hayes of Taylorsville, Paris Jenkins of Lenoir, and Jewell Greene of Todd; two brothers, Howard Woodring and wife, Tempie, of Boone, and Clay Woodring and wife, Betty, of Todd. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, including a great-niece, Candice, whom she raised.
Services were conducted Monday afternoon, May 26, at Hopewell United Methodist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Edward McKinney and the Rev. Delmar James. Burial followed in the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1820 East 7th Street, Charlotte, N.C. 28204.

Ruby Jean Harmon Accetta
Ms. Ruby Jean Harmon Accetta, 72, of Laurel Creek Road, Sugar Grove, died Sunday afternoon, May 25, 2008 at Mission St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville.
She was born Nov. 26, 1935 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Garnett and Maude Mast Harmon.
Ms. Accetta was a Licensed Practical Nurse, and was retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital. She attended Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Trivette and husband, Marvin, of Banner Elk; one son, Mike Accetta and wife, Jenny, of West Jefferson; five grandchildren, Stephanie and Brandon Trivette of Banner Elk, Jennifer Dugger and Daniel Accetta of Butler, Tenn., and Opal Accetta of West Jefferson; three sisters, Addie H. Maynard of Jamestown, N.C., Mary Lee Combs and Georgia Ward, both of Sugar Grove; one brother, Bill Harmon and wife, Marie, of Vilas; one niece, Nancy Mixon and husband, Clark; and two nephews, Chris Harmon and Tommy Combs; and one great-nephew, Garrett Mixon and wife, Meghan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Justin Accetta; and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Maynard and Glen Ward.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. David Testerman and the Rev. Mike Townsend. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Lewis Rathbun Center, 121 Sherwood Road, Asheville, N.C. 28803-2426.

George Edward Baker
Mr. George

George Edward Baker, 86, of Aho Road, Blowing Rock, died Saturday afternoon, May 24, 2008 at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born in Catawba County, Oct. 21, 1921, a son of the late Preston Hoke and Lizzie Emma Eckard Baker.
Mr. Baker was a retired North Carolina State Trooper, having served 35 years, 2 months and 29 days. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a former Scout Master with Troop 110 in Blowing Rock. Mr. Baker was a 32nd degree Mason, a member and past Master of Snow Lodge # 363 AF& AM, a member of the Winston-Salem Scottish Rite and a member of Oasis Shrine Temple.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Virginia Denny Baker; one daughter; Vivian Baker Richards and husband, Larry, of Boone; one son, James Edward Baker and wife, Sheree, of Asheville; one granddaughter, Carrie Richards Phillips and husband, Todd, of Boone; three grandsons, Robby Baker and Bradley Baker, both of Asheville, and Travis Richards of Boone; and two great-grandsons, Chance and Chase Phillips of Boone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Gilbert and Margaretta Eckard; two brothers, Forrest and Hoke Baker; and one grandson, Jason Scott Baker.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard Holshouser and the Rev. Gordon Noble. Burial with Masonic Graveside Rites will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital, in care of Oasis Shrine Temple, P O Box 560666, Charlotte, N.C. 28256.

Gail Presnell Hyde
Mrs. Gail Presnell Hyde, 56, of Valdese, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, following a period of declining health.
She was born on June 29, 1951 in Watauga County, to the late William Raleigh Presnell and Beulah Mae Hicks Presnell.
Mrs. Hyde was a former employee of Impact Furniture and was a member of the Drexel First Church of God.
Survivors include her former husband, Franklin Carswell Hyde of Valdese; her daughters, Angie Shuping and husband, Wayne, of Connelly Springs and Sharon Morgan and husband Dwight of Valdese; her grandchildren, Joshua Shuping, Elisha Shuping, Destiny Steffey, and Rebekah Shuping; also surviving are her brothers and sisters.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Officiating will be the Rev. Tony Didway and Rev. Kyle Canerday. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

Amy Presnell Trivette
Mrs. Amy Presnell Trivette, 35, of 221 Saquio Drive, Louisburg, N.C., a native and former resident of Watauga County, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at her home.
She was born Sept. 21, 1972, in Watauga County, a daughter of Daniel Presnell and the late Darlene Greene Presnell.
Mrs. Trivette was assistant manager of Golden Corral in Wake Forest and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Phillip Trivette; three daughters, Brittany Autrey and husband, Tom, Brandy Trivette and Danielle Trivette; and one son, Austin Trivette, all of Louisburg; one granddaughter, Samara Autrey; and three grandsons, Ryan Autrey, Joshua Autrey and Gabriel Trivette, all of Louisburg; and one step-grandson, Cayden Autrey of Louisburg; her father, Daniel Presnell of Deep Gap; one sister, Valerie Saunders and husband, Stanley, of Zionville; her maternal grandmother, Sarah Greene of Deep Gap; her paternal grandmother, Ruby Presnell of Boone; her father and mother-in-law, Kenny and Margery Trivette of Blowing Rock. She is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Darlene Greene Presnell.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state from 12:30-2:00. Officiating will be Pastor Alan Blume and the Rev. Bud Russell. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:30-2 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service, prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Kenny and Margery Trivette, 159 Hodges/Miller Rd., Blowing Rock.
