The Watauga County Board of Education hired Tim Pruitt as the new football coach at Watauga High School Thursday night.
Pruitt spent the last four seasons at West Wilkes, where he compiled a 24-23 record. His team went 9-3 last year and reached the 1-AA playoffs. The Black-hawks went 1-10 his first year, but improved to two straight 7-5 records afterwards.
“I am extremely pleased that we were able to attract a young man of coach Pruitt’s caliber to lead our football team,” Watauga athletics director Lavell Hall said in a statement. “The committee felt strongly that Tim Pruitt best met the criteria established or this position.”
Pruitt replaces Adrian Snow, who left to take the head coaching position at West Forsyth.
Snow coached at Watauga four years, going 13-2 in 2006 and 12-3 in 2007. The Pioneers reached the semifinals of the state 4-A playoffs both seasons. In 2007, the Pioneers grabbed a share of the Northwestern 4-A Conference championships, and have beaten NWC power A.C. Reynolds in the 2006 playoffs and the 2007 regular season.
