Wreck claims woman's life

Friday morning accident

A two-vehicle crash at 12:25 a.m. Friday on U.S. 321 resulted in the death of 21-year-old Tabitha Marie Hilton of 302 West King St., Boone. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but two people were reportedly transported to the Watauga Medical Center with serious injuries. According to the preliminary report from the N.C. News update: Warner charged with 70 counts of animal cruelty

WHS hires athletic director

The Watauga County Board of Education made it official Monday night by hiring Jeff Link to be the county’s new athletics director.

Attorneys address jury in Harrington murder trial
Jury selection is complete and the presentation of the prosecution’s evidence is under way in the capital trial of Neil Matthew Sargeant, 26, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Appalachian State student Stephen Harrington.

Todd woman arrested after 77 animals seized
Seventy-seven dogs and three dead puppies were seized during a search warrant executed at a home located at 10430 N.C. 194 north near Todd Thursday evening.

Local Guard members are not shipping out;
