Police searching

for sexual-assault suspect

The Boone Police Department is seeking information on the location of a suspect, charged with first-degree rape.
On March 30, officers responded to a residence on Blowing Rock Road just before 10 a.m. in reference to an alleged sexual assault. The female victim, 46, who did not live at the home, was transported to Watauga Medical Center where she was treated and released.

A statement from the Boone PD says further investigation lead to an arrest warrant issued for Steven Wayne Powers, 54, of 417 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, though he has not yet been taken into custody.
