WHS rolls
to pair of wins
From staff reports
WILSON — While most of Watauga’s teams were getting ready for the upcoming week, the Pioneers’ girls’ soccer team won two games in the Brittany Willis Memorial Showcase.
The Pioneers beat Raleigh Millbrook 3-0 Friday, and followed with a 7-0 thumping of Fayetteville South View Saturday. The 10 goals scored over the weekend are just one less than the Pioneers have scored in their first five games combined.
Watauga, which jumps back into Northwestern 4-A Conference play Tuesday at home against Alexander Central, improved to 5-2 overall. The Pioneers are also 2-2 in the NWC with both of their losses being 1-0 setbacks to McDowell and A.C. Reynolds, who are both 3-0 in the conference.
Anna Lisa Hart did the most damage to Millbrook (1-5-1) by scoring two goals. Austin Williamson also had a goal against Millbrook.
Hart added two more goals to her weekend total against South View (2-9). Macy Johnson also scored two goals, while Lucy Binning, Ashlyn Baird and Sydney Atkinson all scored single goals for the Pioneers.
Johnson and Baird lead the team with five goals each, while Hart and Binning each have four. Binning also has eight assists.
Watauga has a busy week ahead of it. After hosting Alexander Central Tuesday, the Pioneers host Wilkes Central in a non-conference game Thursday. Another non-conference game at T.C. Roberson waits for Watauga this Saturday at 2 p.m.
