Cheerleaders win
national title
From staff reports
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Appalachian State cheer squad captured the Spirit Squad Inc. National Large Squad Championship.
The Mountaineers, in their major competition of the season, traveled 32 student-athletes to the event which featured other universities from around the nation.
“Our energy and support between each other was the best we’ve had this season,” ASU coach John Anderson said. “We went on the floor confident and knew we were going to hit the routine. When we left the floor, we were as happy as they have been all semester.”
The Mountaineers led the field after the first routine by a lone point (out of ten available). Appalachian Sate held on through the final set to capture the title over Virginia Tech, McMaster University and Kingston College.
Six men and 28 women comprised the team that brought home Appalachian Sate’s second national title of the 2007-08 academic year.
