Minor injuries reported
in U.S. 421 collision

Two people were transported to the Watauga Medical Center Tuesday afternoon after a near head-on collision on U.S. 421 in Boone at the intersection of George Wilson Road near the Hilltop Drive Inn restaurant.
Peter Domanico, 21, an Appalachian State University student from Durham, was stopped in the northbound lane waiting to turn left onto George Wilson Road at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Domanico told officers he started to make the turn before seeing the 2004 Chrysler SUV driven by Beverly Giles, 52, of Boone, approaching in the southbound lane.
Domanico stopped with the front end of his1997 Honda Accord partially in the southbound lane.
Giles was unable to come to a stop and collided with Domanico.
The Boone Fire Department, Watauga Medics, Watauga Rescue, Watauga County Sheriff's Office, and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
Both Giles and Domanico were transported to Watauga Medical Center.
Domanico was charged with unsafe movement by the N.C. Highway Patrol.
