CULLOWHEE — Appalachian State won its first Southern Conference match, beating Western Carolina 7-0 Sunday.

The match got off to a strong start, as the Mountaineers (5-8, 1-5 SoCon) were able to win the crucial doubles point.

Appalachian State’s No. 2 double team of Anja Gugger and Heather Prior won 8-1, while the team of Lindsay King and Amanda Cash won their match at the No .3 spot 8-1.

In singles, every Mountaineer was able to pick up a win.

Monica Tomas beat Western’s Trish Hanson at the No.1 spot, 3-6, 6-4 and 10-4.
