Rockets roll
to win over WHS
From staff reports
A.C. Reynolds rolled to a 10-0 victory over Watauga Tuesday night in Northwestern 4-A Conference softball at the Carroll Complex.
The Pioneers trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Rockets scored nine runs to put itself in position to win by the 10-run mercy rule.
“We came out flat and just couldn't get going defensively,” Pioneers coach Brian Vannoy said. “Even though we were flat it was 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the wheels came off. AC Reynolds played well and hit the ball well and it just caved in on us.”
Watauga plays at East Burke Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The jayvees play East Burke at 4:30.
“I think you'll see a different game with East Burke,” Vannoy said. “I think the girls learned a valuable lesson and hopefully we'll come out and be more aggressive early in the game.”

On Tuesday, Cook shot a round of 35 in a three-team tournament at Lenoir Golf Club.
Cook edged Reynolds, who shot a 36 in the nine-hole tournament. Trey McNeil had a 41 and Jordan Steward had a 42.

“Today's match gives our guys a lot of confidence heading into spring break next week,” Northern said. We played really well as a team today. This was the best overall team effort we have given all year.”
