ASU’s Shuler
resigns
From staff reports
Adrian Shuler has resigned from her position as Appalachian State’s women’s basketball coach, according to the school’s Web site.
Shuler has been with the school for six seasons and has posted a 63-110 overall record. She replaced Barbie Breedlove in 2002.
Shuler’s 2007-08 team finished with an 8-22 record and lost to UNC Greens-boro in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament. The Mountaineers never got past the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Shuler’s best team was in 2005-06 when the Mountaineers went 15-13 overall, 11-7 during the SoCon season, which was good for fourth place. It was Watauga’s highest finish since the 1996-97 season.
Shuler also coached four Mountaineers who were named All-Southern Conference and four players scored at least 1,000 points while Shuler was coach.
Shuler was hired after being an assistant at Furman from 1995-2002. She also was an assistant at Georgia College (1994-95), Okaloosa-Walton C.C. (1993-94) and Marshall (1992-93).
“We’re appreciative of Coach Shuler’s efforts over the past six seasons and thank her for her contributions to the women’s basketball program, the athletics department and the University community,” ASU athletic director Charlie Cobb said. “She is a great person who has represented Appalachian with the utmost class. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”
The Web site, goasu.com, also reported that a national search for a new coach will start immediately.
