ASU sweeps Western
From staff reports

Appalachian State’s softball team completed its three-game sweep over Western Carolina Monday by taking a 9-1 decision at Watauga’s softball field. The Mountaineers (3-13, 3-0 SoCon) won by the eight-run mercy rule.

Appalachian State wasted no time in taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With two-out and two-on, Meagan Squartino laced a double to centerfield, scoring Katie Boyd and Brittany Gaston. Squartino finished the game with two hits and two-RBI.

In the third inning, the Mountaineers added four more runs, all with two outs.

Three were driven in by Natalie Willis with a bases-loaded double.
