tie for fifth

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Watauga girls’ track and field team finished in a tie for fifth in the Trojan Relays Saturday.

Watauga’s shot put team of Emily Pineda, Rebekah Pineda and Gibbard finished second, combining to throw 257-feet, 1-inch.

Watauga’s long-jump team of Kristina Tracy, Kasey Jones and Laiken Williams jumped a combined 42-4 feet, and the Pioneers’ five-mile medley relay team of Jones, Williams, Ruth Smith and Kayla Schneider finished in fifth place.

The boys’ team did not score any team points, but had two top-10 finishes. Watauga’s distance medley relay team of Jordan Trivette, Ian Boyd, Jay Weaver and Ben Vollmer finished seventh, while the Pioneers’ shuttle relay team of Boyd, Michael Neff, Cam Hass and Tyler McDonald finished eighth.


Boys golf
MORGANTON — Watauga finished fifth in a Northwestern 4-A Golf match held at Brushy Mountain Golf Club last week.

Darren Cook led the Pioneers with a round of 75, good for sixth overall. Taylor Marsh and Jordan Stewart each finished with a round of 87, while Brandon Reynolds and Trey McNeil each shot an 88. Wes Aycock shot a 92.

Alexander Central won the overall event with a 291. The Cougars captured the top four individual places, including medalist Ben Gardner, who shot a 71. Freedom was second and South Caldwell was third. A.C. Reynolds was fourth.
