UNCG ends Mountaineers basketball season
Appalachian State saw its men's basketball season come to a close with a 63-46 loss to UNC Greensboro in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournamemnt Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum.

WINSTON-SALEM — Watauga baseball coach Pete Hardee admitted that it may have looked strange taking his Pioneers back to Mount Tabor, a team that beat Watauga by nine runs just two days earlier.

HIGH POINT — Appalachian State baseball scored 11 runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and withstood a furious High Point rally in the bottom of the ninth to collect 19-14 win on Wednesday afternoon at Willard Stadium. Read more.

Mellow Mushroom Invitational March 7-8: Pioneers host top teams
If the Mellow Mushroom Invitational has a familiar look to it, there’s a reason for that. Commentary: Speir takes on marathon for hospital
Appalachian State assistant coach Mark Speir knows football. Speir is the Mountaineers’ defensive line coach. He is also the team’s recruiting coordinator. He may not make first contact with every recruit, but he’s responsible for making sure that when a group of seniors graduate, they are replaced by a group of freshman capable of winning another national championship.

CLEMMONS — Watauga lost a heartbreaker 1-0 to West Forsyth Monday afternoon. West Forsyth scored its run in the first inning and held on to win the game. The Pioneers (0-1) settled for two hits, including a double by Baker, and left seven runners on base.

Greensboro Page slips past Pioneers
The 2007-08 edition of the Watauga Pioneers boy’s basketball team became the first since 1989 to advance in the state playoffs when they upset Northwestern 4-A Conference champion East Burke last Tuesday.
