NEWS-BREAK: Tweetsie building burns
Fire officials said the building, a 1,300-square-foot space, had been moved to its current location in 1954 but had been part of the original facility.
Members of the Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue Department , as well as the Boone Fire Department, arrived on the scene at 4 a.m. The scene was cleared just before 7:30.
One official said the cause, although yet to be determined, may be electrical. No injuries were reported.
Several pieces of railroad memorabilia were lost in the blaze. Tweetsie officials still expect to keep the originally planned opening date of May 2.
