Feb. 8
Matthew Wayne Rayfield, 23, of 206 Bryant Combs Road, Sugar Grove, was served with a warrant for arrest for felony charges of manufacturing a schedule II controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, and maintaining a dwelling for purposes related to a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 18 in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
Damage to livestock was reported at the 200 block of Ralph Wilson Road in Vilas. A dog attacked cattle on the owner’s property.
Communicating threats was reported by a resident of the Southridge Apartment complex. Threatening messages were left on the victim’s answering machine.
Larceny was reported at Appalachian Ski Mountain. A snowboard and bindings were reported stolen, with an estimated value of $570.
Breaking and entering was reported on the 100 block of Cedar Cove Lane in Zionville. A person entered the home and looked through the bedroom. No items were reported stolen.
Breaking and entering and damage to property were reported on the 2600 block of Roby Greene Road, Boone. A person used a screwdriver to pry open the front door, causing $200 in damage.
Andrew John Macchiavello, 24, of 129 Lazy Lake Road Apt. 5, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of possession of marijuana up to one half ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear in district court on March 6 in lieu of an unsecured $1,000 bond.
Delfino Arelland Avellaneda, 25, of 107 Big Sky Lane, Banner Elk, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of providing fictitious information to an officer. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 6 in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
Lucas Blake Johnson, 23, of 1109 Vannstone Road, Raleigh, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date to face charges of driving while license revoked and failure to stop at a traffic signal. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 12 in lieu of a $500 secured bond.
Feb. 9
Breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny were reported at a residence on the 1300 block of Stoneybrook Lane in Boone. Skis and boots, valued at $1,393, were reported stolen.
Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Wilson’s Ridge Road in Boone. The victim reported two people were in the residence and several pieces of jewelry were noticed missing later. The total value of the missing jewelry is estimated at $1,225.
Injury to personal property was reported on Holloway Mountain Road in Foscoe. The victim reported the hood of their vehicle had been lifted.
Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 700 block of Junaluska Road in Boone. The victim reported a person entered the home and took a 50-inch HD television, valued at $2,000.
Justin William Wylie, 21, of 108 Clyde Winebarger Road, Todd, was served with an order for arrest on charges of felony probation violation and failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in superior court on March 12 in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Feb. 10
Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 4100 block of Elk Creek Road in Deep Gap. The front door of the home was kicked in and two wooden bar stools were reported stolen.
Roy David Price, 41, of 105 Honey Drive, New Tazwell, Tenn., was arrested on view on a charge of possession of burglary tools. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 18 in lieu of a secured $10,000 bond.
James Edward Gibson, 23, of 127 Honey Drive, New Tazwell, Tenn., was arrested on view on charges of no operators license and possession of burglary tools. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 18 in lieu of a secured $10,000 bond.
Feb. 11
Hannah Jay Kovach, 21, of 5825 Crestview Drive, Waxhaw, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court appearance to face a charge of driving while license revoked. She is scheduled to appear in district court on March 6 in lieu of a $500 secured bond.
Criminal damage to property was reported on the 2600 block of Bamboo Road in Boone. A culvert pipe rolled from a construction site and struck two vehicles, causing $1,000 total in damage.
Fraud was reported by a resident of Old Watauga River Road in Sugar Grove. The victim reported a person using their bank card and writing checks causing a bank overdraft.
Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 300 block of Old Slabtown Road in Zionville. The victim reported the front door of the home was pried open and $3,200 in cash stolen.
Feb. 12
Trespassing and damage to property were reported at a residence on the 2200 block of Brookshire Road. The victim reported a person cut the lock from a gate and entered the property.
Larceny was reported at a business on the 200 block of Bamboo Road. The victim reported a person took the fuel filter and hose from the fuel tank of a vehicle.
Fraud was reported at a residence on the 700 block of Niley Cook Road in Blowing Rock. The victim reported a person used their debit card to make various purchases.
Reed Grimes Tiawan, 26, of 177 Summer Drive, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of injury to personal property. He is scheduled to appear in district court on March 6 in lieu of a $500 secured bond.
Floyd Stephen Presnell, 40, of 288 Hamptons Trailer Circle, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a II controlled substance, possession of a schedule V controlled substance, no insurance on vehicle, and failure to register vehicle. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 10 and 18 in lieu of a $750 secured bond.
Christopher Robin Burrow, 23, of 1901 Chestnut Drive, High Point, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 18 in lieu of a $700 bond.
Michael Alan Stewart, 31, of 184 Hodges Gap Road, Boone, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear in at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 18 in lieu of a secured $500 bond.
Feb. 13

He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 18 in lieu of a secured $15,000 bond.
Larceny and assault were reported by a resident on the 5500 block of Junaluska Road in Boone. The victim reported having been assaulted after confronting another about stolen property.
Fraud was reported at a business on the 2900 block of Broadstone Road in Banner Elk. A person used a fake cashiers check to obtain $3,000 from the victim.
Harassing phone calls were reported by a resident of Greer Lane in Vilas. The victim reported having been called numerous times.
Larceny was reported at a residence on the 1300 block of River Ridge Road, Boone. A political sign reading “Obama ‘08” was stolen from the victim’s front yard.
John Michael Tate, 44, of 299 One Drive, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of communicating threats. He is scheduled to appear in district court on March 6 in lieu of a written promise bond.
Feb. 14
Mason Todd Balbier, 26, of 392 Camelot Drive, Banner Elk, was served with an order for arrest for three charges of failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on March 18 in lieu of a secured $5,500 bond.
Communicating threats and assault on a female were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Cherry Tree Lane in Banner Elk. The victim reported threats were made via telephone.
Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 300 block of Curley Maple Road in Boone. The basement door of the home was forced open and several tools and construction equipment was stolen. The total value is estimated at $2,891.
Breaking and entering of a motor vehicle was reported at a parking lot on the 9600 block of Old U.S. 421 in Zionville. The vehicle was forcibly entered, though no items were reported stolen.
