Appalachian State’s final home match of the 2008, which was also Senior Day, could not have gone much better for the Mountaineers, who rolled past two opponents at Varsity Gym Sunday.

It started with the Mountaineers beating Southern Conference rival VMI 42-4 and finished with a 47-4 pasting of Division II Carson-Newman.

Appalachian State won every match but one against both VMI and Carson-Newman. The Mountaineers also turned in their share of pinfalls and major decisions. Eddie Hutchinson (157 pounds) and Tommy Hutchinson (165 pounds) both turned in pinfall victories against VMI. Eddie Hutchinson pinned Andrew Dionne in just 23 seconds. At 125 pounds, Appalachian State’s Frank Celorrio pinned Jeremy Adams in the third period, which gave the Mountaineers a 15-4 lead.

Scott Ervin (149 pounds) earned a technical fall victory over John Held 19-3. Terreyl Williams (133 pounds) beat Ryan Goodsell 15-5 to pick up a major decision victory, while Dylan Temple (197 pounds), Marcus Cox (141 pounds) and Neal Martin (174 pounds) posted victories.

It was more of the same against Carson-Newman. Ervin, Eddie Hutchinson, Mark Maya (141 pounds), John Allen Griswold (197 pounds) all posted pinfall victories. Austin Trotman (184 pounds), who received a forfeit win against VMI, turned in a major decision victory over Carson-Newman’s Will Campbell 13-5.

Williams also won by a technical fall, a 24-9 win over Drew Roberts. Neal Martin beat Landon Hall 4-2, and two Pioneers — Celorrio and Tommy Hutchinson — won by forfeit. Hutchinson beat Ryan Brock in an exhibition match 13-1.
