A long-term investigation by the Watauga County Sheriff's Office’s Special Operations Division came to an end Saturday with the seizure of eight ounces, or one half-pound, of cocaine.
The sheriff’s Special Operations Division and Special Tactics and Response Team stopped a vehicle on Saturday, Feb. 2, near the intersection of Blowing Rock Road and Shadowline Drive as a part of the investigation.

Eight ounces of cocaine have been seized following a long-term investigation by the Sheriff's Office. |
Four individuals were taken into custody, and eight ounces of cocaine, a schedule II controlled susbtance, were confiscated.
The cocaine seized had been separated into eight bundles, tightly sealed in plastic cling wrap, and all had been contained in a one-half gallon freezer bag.
The estimated street value of the cocaine is $22,400.
A representative of the Sheriff’s Office said two of the four individuals arrested remain in custody and are believed to have been responsible for the entry and distribution of large quantities of cocaine in Watauga County.
Capt. Al Reed of the Special Operations Unit said the apprehension of these individuals has stopped a major supplier of the illicit substance in this area.
The names of the individuals involved have not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges may occur according to the Sheriff’s Office.
