Wall collapses
at Speckled Trout Café
The catch of the day Sunday at the Speckled Trout Cafe in Blowing Rock was a full-size 1995 Ford Bronco.
Chih Jen, 70, of Boone, was attempting to park beside the building off U.S. 221 when the vehicle struck the building causing the wall to collapse.
The officer, Lt. Swanson of the Blowing Rock Police Department, stated the impact was at a low-speed. Jen was attempting to park the vehicle in order to have lunch just before noon on Sunday.

Repairs were under way Tuesday following a collapse at the Speckled Trout in Blowing Rock on Sunday.

The Bronco had enough momentum to travel over the timbers and flower bed and strike the building.
Upon impact, the wall collapsed. Two adults and two children were seated at a table beside the wall. The collapse pushed them further into the building, but no injuries were sustained.
Swanson said there were no indications of aggressive or reckless driving nor excessive speed. The Bronco sustained only scratches to the bumper and hood. Jen was not cited in the accident, though the accident report faults him as inattentive and for improper parking.
The Speckled Trout Cafe is closed for repairs as of Tuesday. David Bartlett, owner, could not be reached for comment.
