Phone calls are
not legitimate,
bank says
The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office has received reports from people who received a telephone call from someone identifying himself or herself as an employee of High Country Bank.
The caller tells the victims their account has been suspended and gives them a telephone number to call to have their accounts reactivated.
“Officials with High Country Bank advised the Sheriff’s Office that their institution is not making these phone calls,” Capt. Dee Dee Rominger stated in a press release.
“If you receive a call, do not give the caller any personal or banking account information. This is a scam,” she said.
She added, such cases should be reported to Watauga County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 264-3761.
