Sources in downtown Boone say an agreement has been reached to sell the recently closed Appalachian Twin Theatre on King Street to a local investment partnership.

According to a local source with ties to Watauga County government, the buyer, which has been identified only as a local “community-minded” group of investors has begun the process of acquiring the historic theater from corporate owners Carmike Cinemas. The theater closed in November.

The group will reportedly pay around $1 million for the theater and the deal is expected to close within days.
Sources say the buyer plans to reopen the building as a live musical venue, using the vintage stage located behind the theater’s movie screen.

No more details have been released. Extensive efforts to reach no fewer than three Carmike officials were unsuccessful as of press time.

More details will be released as they become available.
