A vigilant neighbor foiled an alleged breaking and entering on Pine Hill Road Tuesday morning.

At 10:35 a.m., the Watauga County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a breaking and entering at 452 Pine Hill Road, off Poplar Grove Road in Boone.

Kevin Hines

Upon arrival, a neighbor told deputies a nearby home had a broken window. The officers checked the home and determined no entry was gained. Due to the broken window, deputies checked the surrounding homes for damage or signs of tampering.

The home next door, number 454, was found to have signs of attempted entry at the ground level garage door, and a door standing open on the second level.

The officers began a search of the home and discovered Kevin Lee Hines, 47, whose last known address was Deep Gap, inside the home without authorization or permission.

Hines was taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering. He is being held at the Watauga County Detention Center in lieu of a $300 bond.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
