Lenore Wiedman Dudley
Ms. Lenore Wiedman Dudley, 73, of Sheridan Avenue, Boone, and a former resident of Ashtabula, Ohio, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at home.
She was born Nov. 17, 1934 in Ashtabula, Ohio, a daughter of the late Helen Danko and Charles Allen Wiedman.
Ms. Dudley graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1952. She attained both a BA and MA and retired from Belk Library at Appalachian State University. Her love of animals and especially dogs, led her to serve many years on the Board of Directors for the Watauga Humane Society, in which she served in many capacities. At one time she had adopted dogs from the shelter. She enjoyed gourmet cooking and was a fan of TV cooking shows. Stricken with polio as an infant, she did not let her handicap affect her endeavors in education, library work or interest in protecting animals.
Surviving are her brother, Charles Wiedman and wife, Dolores, of Frisco, Texas; three nieces; two grand-nieces; and one grand-nephew.
A time of remembrance was held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 22, 2007, from 1 until 3 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Clyde Early Greene
Mr. Clyde Early Greene, 71, of Country Club Road, Wilkesboro, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Britthaven Nursing Home.
He was born August 8, 1936 in Wilkes County, to Callie and Hazel Golds Greene.
Mr. Greene worked for Bernie and Keith Call Logging.
He is survived by close family friends, Sis and Bernie Call and family of Wilkesboro; three daughters, Susie Miller and husband, Jonathan, of Boone, Rita Brown and husband, Steve, of Wilkesboro, Lois Hunt and husband, Buster, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; three sons, C. E. Greene and wife, Marsha, Mike Greene and wife, Smiley, Stacey Greene and wife, Sherry, all of Deep Gap; three sisters, Irene Felts of North Wilkesboro, Jewel Greene of Millers Creek, Holly Smith and husband, John, of Deep Gap; four brothers, Creed Greene and wife, Hollie, of Deep Gap, David Greene of Lenoir, Dennis Greene of Taylorsville, Travis Greene and wife, Judy, of Millers Creek; 16 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., Dec. 19, 2007, at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Deep Gap with the Rev. Wayne Osborne officiating.

Fred Hite Mast
Mr. Fred Hite Mast, 91, of Johnson City, Tenn., and a former resident of Boone, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 18, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born March 1, 1916 in Watauga County, a son of the late Newton and Rebecca Isaacs Mast.
Mr. Mast was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a partner and the President of Trailway Laundry and Dry Cleaners and was a member of the Fisherman Club.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Farthing Mast; two step-daughters, Lauren Pryor of Hendersonville, and Lynn Tester of Boone; two step-sons, James Tester of Hendersonville and Welch Casey Tester, Jr. of Sugar Grove; one sister, Rebecca Sue Lavoie of Statesville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jewell Hagaman Mast; five sisters, Emma Taylor, Daisy Sheeks, Pearl Page, Grace Hunter, and Mildred Cornelius; and five brothers, Clint, Ray, Robert, Joe Clay, and J. D. Mast.
Services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Father John Zellner and the Rev. Gordon A. Noble. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon prior to the service from 1 until 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Grover C. "Jack" Norris
Mr. Grover C. "Jack" Norris, 85, of 511 Queen Street, Boone, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 18, 2007, at Glenbridge Health Care.
He was born May 20, 1922 in Ashe County, a son of the late Grover Cleveland Norris, Sr. and Mollie Greene Norris.
Mr. Norris was a retired owner and general contractor of Norris Construction for 35 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Boone.
Survivors include four sisters, Lucy Waugh of North Wilkesboro, Ruby Wagoner and Helen Ross and husband, Bob, all of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Libby Hartzog of Millers Creek; two brothers, Paul Norris and wife, Betty, of Lansing, and Allie Norris and wife, Lorranine, of Jefferson; three sisters-in-law, Georgia Ayers Yates and Lois Norris, both of Boone, and Helen Norris of Wilkesboro; a special nephew, Jackie Norris of Boone; a special great-nephew, Scotty Norris of Vilas, and a special caregiver and friend, Larry Greene of Boone. He is also survived by a number of special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jackie Ayers Norris; one sister, Ruth Crump; three brothers, Howard Norris, James Norris, and Bruce Norris.
Services were conducted Thursday afternoon, Dec. 20, 2007, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were Dr. Wayne Brown and the Rev. John Elledge. Entombment followed in the Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum.

Marie Hanson Cole
Mrs. Marie Hanson Cole, 81, of Ridgewood Drive, Boone, died Monday morning, Dec. 17, 2007, at the Blowing Rock Hospital.
She was born Oct. 27, 1926 in Daphne, Ala., a daughter of Edward Emil and Elizabeth Calloway Hanson.
After moving to Boone, Mrs. Cole became an active participant in the Adult Daycare Center at the Blowing Rock Hospital. She was a member of the Daphne Baptist Church where she actively served the Sunday school classes and the choir. She retired as the cafeteria manager of Daphne Elementary and Middle School.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Floyd Cole of Boone; one daughter, Janet Bates and husband, Jim, of Boone; one son, Herb Cole and wife, Amy of Daphne, Ala.; three granddaughters, Alexandra and Jennie Cole, both of Daphne, Ala. and Hannah Bates of Boone; one grandson, Nathan Bates of Boone; and her twin brother, Marion “Bubba” Hanson and wife, Mildred, of Gulf Shores, Ala. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah and Mildred Hanson; and four brothers, James, Emmett, Clayton and Austin Hanson.
Local funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 o’clock, one hour prior to services, at Austin & Barnes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child, 801 Bamboo Road, Boone, N.C. 28607.
Services in Daphne, Ala. will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Daphne Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Alfred Yancey. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Wolf-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Michael Scott Deal
Mr. Michael Scott Deal, 45, of Hickory, N.C., died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at Frye Regional Medical Center, after a period of declining health.
He was born Nov. 8, 1962, in Catawba County, to Cassie Church Deal and the late Arthur Earl Deal.
Mr. Deal was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod and was office manager for T.M. Caldwell Plumbing and also had worked for Corning, Inc. for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Shook Deal; sons, Michael E. Deal and Matthew Scott Deal, both of the home; his mother, Cassie Church Deal of Hickory; a brother, Douglas Deal of Hickory; aunts, uncles, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Deal; and a brother, Dennis Deal.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., Dec. 19, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod with the Rev. David Guelzow, David Zichr and Vicar Brandon Martin officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Sadie Ford Church
Mrs. Sadie Ford Church, 80, of Fleetwood, N.C., died Wednesday morning, Dec. 12, 2007, at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson.
She was born in Watauga County, Friday, April 8, 1927, to the late Filmora and Blanche Coffey Ford.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Church and wife, Debbie, of Fleetwood; a brother, Glenn “Brook” Ford of Boone, N.C.; a sister, Mary Bell Hampton of Lenoir, N.C.; two grandchildren, Becky Howell and husband, Gene, of Sparta, and Alicia Howell and husband, Richard Lee, of Walnut Cove, N.C.; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elster Church; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Liberty Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. John Elledge and the Rev. David Long officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Anne Eason
Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Robbins Eason, 68, of Triplett, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at Watauga Medical Center following a period of declining health. 
She was born on Dec. 7, 1939 in Portsmouth, Va., to the late Jesse Council Robbins and Lois Brewer Robbins.
Anne was a 1958 graduate of Craddock High School in Virginia where she was named Distributive Education Student of the Year when she was a senior. Over the years she worked as a substitute teacher, a nurse’s aide, a Sylvania TV representative, and at Blockbuster Video in Boone for the first six years after it opened. For many years she was the Democratic polling representative in Triplett for the Watauga County Board of Elections. She always looked forward to helping people cast their votes on Election Day.
Anne was blessed with a marvelous intellect, a curious nature, a wonderful sense of humor and generous soul. She read thousands of books in her life and was on a first name basis with the employees of the Watauga County Public Library.
Survivors include her best friend and husband of 49 years, Chuck Eason, of Triplett; son, Jeff Eason and wife, Leslie Eason, of Boone; son, Greg Eason and wife, Heidi Eason, of Triplett; granddaughter Eliza Eason of Triplett; sister Peggy Langdon of Boone; brother-in-law Vic Eason and wife, Fair Eason, of Valdosta, Ga.; niece Theresa Mosteller and husband, Bobby Mosteller, of Vilas; nephews Rick Ruckart and wife, Mirna Ruckart, of Charlotte, Don Langdon and wife, Ay Langdon, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Bobby Langdon and wife, Teri, of Boone; and Charles Langdon of Boone; plus many grandnephews and grandnieces.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Ruckart; her niece, Regina “Poogie” Langdon; and nephew, Jesse Mitchell.
The family has decided to hold a wake and celebration of Anne’s life after the holidays.

Raymond Grady Wrenn
Mr. Raymond Grady Wrenn, a resident of Durham, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007.
He was born in Durham, the son of the late Gracie Truman McGhee Wrenn and Walter Edward Wrenn.
Mr. Wrenn spent his whole life as a general contractor and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving are his sons, Raymond Grady Wrenn, Jr. and wife, Wendy, of Bahama, Garland Lee Wrenn and wife, Barbara R., of Lexington, Donald Tony Wrenn and wife, Barbara C., of Cary, and Randy Mark Wrenn and wife, Amanda, of Blowing Rock; daughter-in-law, Cathy Wrenn, of Hillsborough; brothers, David Wrenn, Ralph Wrenn, and Wayne Wrenn; and sisters, Evelyn Howe, Alice Howard and Margaret High; 12 grandchildren, Dane Wrenn, Monica Moore, Daniel Wrenn, Tommy Wrenn, Melissa Kennedy, Michelle Tysinger, Jeremy Wrenn, Crystal Holladay, Lindsay Wrenn, Hannah Wrenn, Courtney Wrenn and Randy Wrenn, Jr.; and six great-grandchildren, Casey Wrenn, Lauren Wrenn, Dane Wrenn, Jr., Seth Kennedy, Cheyenne Kennedy and Caroline Holladay.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gertrude Leathers Wrenn; two sons, Linwood Earl Wrenn and Danny Leroy Wrenn; brothers, Pete Wrenn and Ed Wrenn; and a sister, Frances Womble.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Clements Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Johns officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
