The flapjacks will be flying this Saturday, Dec. 1, as the Watauga Education Foundation holds its annual Flapjack Flip, a fundraising event to benefit the foundation’s many efforts to support local education.

The Flapjack Flip lasts from 7 to 11:30 a.m. and will be held at Watauga High School.

This year’s event will feature the traditional pancake breakfast (complete with Missy Harrell’s famous blueberry syrup), but will also include a few new items.

For the first time, Conrad’s Coffee, the event’s main sponsor, will be serving its locally roasted coffee.
The first 50 paid adults to arrive will receive a stainless Conrad’s travel mug.

The foundation will also be selling any remaining raffle tickets for its limited raffle, where only 20 chances are sold for each of the 20 available prizes.

The tickets range in price from $20 to $200, and the prizes include everything from season tickets to Appalachian State University basketball games to all you need to makeover your living room. Drawings for the raffle winners will take place at the breakfast, but participants do not have to be present to win.

To accommodate the earlier 9 a.m. start time for the Boone Christmas Parade, the foundation will provide pancake-eating parade goers with shuttle services from WHS.

The shuttle will take participants to the parade set-up point and to another spot along the parade route at 8 a.m.

It will pick up at the Watauga County Health Department, located on the Poplar Grove Connector, after the parade.

“We have a ton of great events going on in Boone this weekend, and anything we can do to encourage the community to come out and enjoy the early December festivities, without having to worry about parking, we are happy to do,” foundation executive director Melanie Bullard said.

Tickets to Flapjack Flip are $3 for students and $5 for adults. Children younger than 4 years old eat free.
The Watauga Education Foundation has supported education in Watauga County for nearly 20 years,
awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to Watauga County schoolteachers to fund projects and programs that fall outside state and local budgets.

The foundation raises money through private donations and initiatives, such as the annual Flapjack Flip and Shooting Stars.
