Greene, Caldwell honored
From staff reports

Watauga’s Zach Greene and Sarah Caldwell have won the High School Heisman Award for Watauga High School.

The award honors high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership.

Greene was a member of the Watauga soccer team this fall, and is also a member of the Watauga boys’ basketball team. The basketball team opens play this Tuesday against Forsyth Country Day.

Sarah Caldwell is the goal keeper for the Watauga girls’ soccer team.

Wrestling begins
The Watauga wrestling team will host the Appalachian Invitational Saturday at Lentz-Eggers Gym beginning at 9 a.m.

It is the first time this season that the Pioneers will take to the mat. Watauga wrestles four times in November, but won’t return to Boone until Dec. 4 when the Pioneers host rival Avery County.

From there, the Pioneers won’t wrestle at home until Jan. 11.

Swim team begins
Watauga’s swim teams swam against Lenoir and South Caldwell Wednesday night, but results were not available until press time.

The Pioneers head back to the pool Nov. 25 at Valdese to take on East Burke.

Football notes
Admission to Watauga’s game with Central Cabarrus Friday night is $7. Accepted passes include NCCA, NCHSAA, Sr. Tarheel, Football Officials and Media.

Overflow parking is available at Boone Mall. A shuttle, provided by the school free of charge, begins at 6 p.m. The shuttle will start returning people back to the mall at the end of the third quarter and keep going back until it is no longer needed.
