John Edward Danner

Mr. John Edward Danner, 89, of Linville, passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center in Banner Elk, N.C., on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007.
He was born in Linville, the son of the late Lloyd and Samantha Wall Danner.
Mr. Danner graduated from Newland High School in 1935 and studied at the Cone Radio Repair Training Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. Most of his adult life, he practiced the carpentry trade and was a 50 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, AFI-CIO. While following the construction industry on the East coast, Mr. Danner Lived in Aiken, S.C., Wilmington, Del., and Alexandria, Va. In 1980 he retired to his native home in Linville.
He was a member of Linville Evangelical Methodist Church and supported John Wesley College in Greensboro, N.C. and the Oriental Missionary Society.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie Gragg Danner; son, John E. Danner Jr. and wife, Sammie Godfrey Danner, of Florence, S.C.; a daughter, Frances Elaine Danner Evans of Mooresville, N.C.; a sister, Faye Danner Wise of Linville; four grandchildren, Eddie Danner and Cathy of Darlington, S.C., Kevin Danner and Julie of Florence, S.C.; Jeffrey Evans of Mooresville, N.C., Kelly E. McMillian and Ron of Mooresville, N.C. Eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Lynn Danner; a son-in-law, Adrian A. Evans; three sisters, Hazel Danner, Beatrice Danner Clark and Bernice Danner Sudderth.
Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 2 at the Linville Evangelical Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Harper and the Rev. Burl Greer officiating. The Danner family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Tanglewood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Linville Evangelical Methodist Church or to the charity of choice.

William Craig Isaacs
Mr. William Craig Isaacs, 40, of 669 Tater Hill Road, Zionville, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007.
He was born Jan. 30, 1967 in Watauga County, a son of Margie Pennell Isaacs and the late Estel Smith Isaacs. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Shellie Isaacs, Melissa Tester, Chelsea Isaacs, and Linsey Isaacs, all of Zionville; his mother, Margie Pennell Isaacs of Zionville; and three brothers, Curtis Isaacs and wife, Eva, Richard Isaacs, and Eddie Isaacs, all of Zionville. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Estel Smith Isaacs; and a daughter, Brittany Isaacs.
Services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2007, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Derrick Wilson and the Rev. T.J. Wilson. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Wednesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.

Donald Doughton Lookabill
Mr. Donald Doughton Lookabill, 73, of 977 Seneca Park Road, Baltimore, Md., died Oct. 18, 2007, in Boone, N.C.
He was born in Laxon, N.C. (Deep Gap area), on Jan. 23, 1934, to Donald E. and Edna C. (Johnson) Lookabill.
After his honorable service in the United States Marine Corp and United States Army, he married Lillie Mae Butler, of Stevensburg, Va., on June 30, 1960.
Mr. Lookabill retired from General Motors Corporation – Truck and Bus Group in May of 1990 after 30 years of service, and was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 239, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8849 and the Moose Lodge #70.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lookabill is survived by two daughters, Donna Sue Harris and David Eads, and Dona Darlene Eads and Randall Edwards; two grandsons, Joseph Matthew Harris and his fiancee Sarah Bowles, and Paul Jonathan Eads, Jr., and many other loving family members and friends.
Surviving siblings include George C. Lookabill and Judy, Nancy Lookabill and John Wayne Williams, Carolyn McNeely and Edwin, and Jeanette Norris. Also, Donald L. Lookabill, Dianna Hutsell and Robert, Ronnie Lookabill and Ann, and Sharon Davie and Robert.
Pastor Jim Gurganus of the New Vision Church officiated the services held on Oct. 23, 2007, at the Connelly Funeral Home in Essex, Md., and Mr. Lookabill was laid to rest at the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, Md., on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007.

Alma Lee Long Schmitt
Mrs. Alma Lee Long Schmitt, 81, of 1354 Soc Houck Road, Boone, died Wednesday night, Oct. 31, 2007, at Glenbridge Health Care Center.
She was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Brunswick County, a daughter of the late Vander and Viola Cook Long. Mrs. Schmitt was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Richard William Schmitt; one son, Buddy Adisey and wife, Norma, of Boone; one daughter, Dianne Daughn and husband, Bob, of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Sally Marie White and Doreatha Greene, both of Boone. She is also survived by three grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Vander and Viola Cook Long; and one sister, Bertha Mae Tabor.
Services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor David Luster. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 12:30-2:00 at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Hazel Church Moore

Mrs. Hazel Church Moore, 75, of 1825 N.W. 154th Street, Newberry, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Palm Gardens Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Gainesville, Fla.
She was born March 18, 1932 in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Dow L. and Francis Watson Church.
Mrs. Moore was a retired hostess and server at Lakeshore Hospital Cafeteria in Florida. She was a member of North Florida Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dana G. Moore; one son, Darrell Moore and wife, Debra, of Lake City, Fla.; one daughter, Karen Hawley and husband, Michael of Gainesville, Fla.; two grandsons, Justin Moore, and Calvin Hawley; one granddaughter, Misti Hawley; two sisters, Naomi Hodges, and Evaline Watson and husband, Claude, all of Lenoir, and one brother, Delmos L. Church and wife, Rosa Lee, of Sunnyside, Wash. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted Friday morning, Nov. 2, 2007, at 10:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 9:30 until 10:00 o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Jerry Reeves. Burial will follow in the Danner Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday morning, from 9:30 until 10:00, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Iva Lee Norris Perkins
Mrs. Iva Lee Norris Perkins, 87, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born on Feb. 29, 1920 in Watauga County, N.C., to the late Roby John and Maggie Norris Bryan.
Mrs. Perkins was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Loretta (Sissy) Stout.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Duard H. (Red) Norris; and her second husband, Burl Perkins; her infant son, Randy Norris; four sisters and four brothers.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31st at the graveside in Phillippi Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Howard and the Rev. Delmar James officiating. Those attending the service are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery.
The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends at the home, 7191 Highway 67 W, Mountain City starting Tuesday morning.

Jason M. ‘J.J.’ Brancato

Mr. Jason M. “J.J.” Brancato, 35, husband of Nicole Eller Brancato, of Beech Mountain, N.C., died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2007 in Phoenixville Hospital.
He was born in Phoenixville, Pa. He is a son of Jeanette “Jeanie” H. Connerton Brancato of Phoenixville and Peter D. Brancato of Upper Darby.
Mr. Brancato was a 1991 graduate of the Phoenixville High School. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed skiing, fishing and music concerts.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by one sister, Stephanie M. Brancato, of Phoenixville; one brother; Peter J. Brancato, of South Carolina. He is also survived by his maternal aunt, Shirley A., wife of H. Raymond Seibel, of South Jersey, formerly of Phoenixville.
Relatives and friends were received from 1-1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Phoenixville, Pa. The memorial service began at 2 p.m. at the church. The burial was private.

Martha Ann Cook
Ms. Martha Ann Cook, 56, of Old Conover Startown Road, Newton, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 at Frye Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 8, 1951 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Boyd Roscoe and Betty Ann Pendley Cook.
Ms. Cook was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and was a Registered Nurse.
Surviving are two sons, Chris Greene and wife, Tori, of Boone, and Brad Greene of Brandon, Fla.; two grandchildren, Abigail and Jordin Greene of Boone; three uncles; Doc Cook and wife, Ruth, Grant Cook and wife, Zola, and Dane Cook and wife, Billie, all of Boone.
Services were conducted Saturday morning, Oct. 27, 2007, at 9 o’clock at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Bud Russell. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Edwin Emmett McNeely
Mr. Edwin Emmett McNeely, 91, of Hickory, passed away at Blowing Rock Hospital on Oct. 25, 2007.
He was born Sept. 29, 1916 in Jackson County, the son of the late Thomas Lafayette McNeely and Mary Etta Spivey McNeely.
Mr. McNeely was a member of Huntington Hills Church of God and an avid fisherman.
Survivors include children, Dr. G. Farrell McNeey of Gainesville, Fla., Thomas Paul McNeely of Conover, Mary Frances Gomez and husband, Al, of Madeira Beach, Fla. and Edwin D. McNeely and wife, Carolyn, of Boone; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nettie M. Coffey of Hickory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Chapman McNeely; grandchildren, Scott McNeely, Danny McNeely and Edwin D. McNeely, II; brothers, Zack McNeely, Pat McNeely and Connie McNeely; and sisters, Jean Bolick and “Sis” Melvida Shook.
The celebration of life service was held at Huntington Hills Church of God on Sunday, October 28, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Randall Miller and the Rev. Garland Grooms officiating. Burial followed in Catawba Memorial Park.

James Kermit Wallace
Mr. James Kermit Wallace, 81, of Vanderpool Road, Vilas, died Thursday morning, Oct. 25, 2007 at home.
He was born in Watauga County, Dec. 14, 1926, a son of the late Roby and Erma Martin Wallace.
Mr. Wallace was an Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of Sutherland United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and was retired from Sprague Electric and Belks.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Donnelly Wallace; four sons, Jerry Wallace and wife, Peggy, of Creston, Charlie Wallace and wife, Anna, of Vilas, Doug Wallace and wife, Mitzi, of Boone, and Scott Wallace of Vilas; six grandchildren, Tammy Critcher of Boone, Darren Wallace of Boone, Daniel Wallace of Vilas, Andrew Wallace and Landon Wallace, both of Boone, and Brittany Wallace of Charlotte; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Edith Henson of Vilas, Mabel Hagaman of Trade, Tenn., Ella Mae Fletcher of Boone, and Geneva Hackney of Vincennes, Ind.; and three brothers, Argus Wallace of Boone, R. C. Wallace of Mountain City, Tenn., and Bill Wallace of Sugar Grove.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Wallace.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28, 2007, at 2 o’clock at the Sutherland United Methodist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Ricky Mitchell. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

William Jordan ‘Bill’ Williamson, Jr.
Mr. William J. "Bill" Williamson, Jr., 81, of 200-4 Lot Estes Drive, Blowing Rock, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 2, 1926 in Charlotte, N.C., a son of the late William Jordan Williamson, Sr. and Lilla Sue Wright Williamson.
Mr. Williamson was a graduate of Davidson College. He served his country in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a member of Joppa Masonic Lodge #530 and Oasis Shrine Temple. Mr. Williamson was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He also served as an elder of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock, NC.
He began his career in classified advertising at the Charlotte News. He was Vice President and Advertising Director of Eckerd Drugs of North Carolina for 19 years. After retiring to Blowing Rock, N.C., Mr. Williamson served as General Manager of Tweetsie Railroad and owner of Stephen’s Restaurant. In 2006, he was honored for 25 years of service on the Blowing Rock Hospital Board of Trustees. He served for many years on the Board of the Blowing Rock Stage Company.
Mr. Williamson was a tireless advocate of travel and tourism in North Carolina, as one of the founders of North Carolina High Country Host, chairman of the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board, member of the North Carolina Travel Council and the 1989 recipient of the Charles J. Parker Travel Award.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean Barrett Williamson of Blowing Rock, N.C.; a daughter, the Rev. Betsy Williamson of Charlotte, N.C.; sons, Bill Williamson, III and wife, Cathy. of Blowing Rock, N.C. and Steve Williamson and wife, Claire, of Boone; beloved grandsons, Jordan Williamson, IV and Patrick Williamson of Blowing Rock; step-grandchildren, Mark Trivett and wife, Hannah, of Beech Mountain, N.C. and Elizabeth Trivett of Boone, N.C.; sister-in-law, Sally T. Williamson of Rock Hill, S.C.; a nephew, Jeff Williamson and wife, Paula, and niece, Melissa Russell, of Rock Hill.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Dukes W. Williamson; and nieces, Mary Jane Williamson and Susan W. Rowe.
Services will be conducted Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, 2007, at 11:00 o'clock, at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 10:00 until 11:00 o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles Landreth, and the Rev. Charles Carter. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Wednesday morning, October 31, 2007, at 11:00 o'clock, at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 6:30 until 8:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Service.
