The big question since Appalachian State’s win over Michigan has been if Armanti Edwards will ever play quarterback again.
Good news for those who keep asking: He will.
In fact, Edwards, barring any unforeseen circumstance, will play Saturday at Georgia Southern. Both Mountaineers coach Jerry Moore and Edwards himself said the sophomore quarterback will play.
Moore stopped short of definitely saying Edwards would start when askde during the Southern Conference telleconference call, escept to say, “We’ll see how it goes, but I would think so.”
“He’s fine. He should play,” Moore said Monday after practice. “He’s a lot better. He was hurt. He was a lot more bruised up than anybody or himself thought, but he’s going to be fine.”

Edwards injured his left (and throwing) shoulder in the Mountaineers’ 34-32 victory over Michigan. He missed Appalachian State’s next two games before returning to the lineup in a 45-31 loss at Wofford.
Edwards aggravated his injury, which was called a “Class 2 sprain” in that game and sat down for the Mountaineers’ next two games at Elon and at home against Gardner-Webb.
He had last week, a bye week for the Mountaineers, to rest his shoulder without missing any playing time.
Edwards, who has not been injured since he broke his left shoulder blade in ninth grade, said his shoulder is “100 percent” healthy and there is no pain when he throws the ball.
“I can’t wait, really,” Edwards said. “(I’m) just trying to go through practice and have a perfect practice, so when game time comes, I won’t be rusty.”
Edwards practiced during the three workouts the Mountaineers had last week.
The team went through some light drills and some conditioning Monday as they always do for that day.
Moore said the gameplan did not change when backup Trey Elder took over for Edwards. He also said that the coaching staff will decide to keep the same plan during the week that they’ve used for Elder.
“We’ll decide that during the week,” Moore said. “But he’s fine right now. We didn’t do anything different from when he wasn’t in there to when he was and we’re still not going to do anything different. We’re going to run the same offense and call plays the same.”
“It’s been a very long four or five weeks,” Edwards said. “Trey’s been in there, so it’s been pretty good.”
Elder picked up where Edwards left off by guiding the Mountaineers to a 4-0 record as a starter. He is the second leading rusher on the team with 350 yards on 58 carries. He also rushed for 126 yards in a 49-32 win over Elon.
Elder has also hit 58-of-88 passes for 921 yards, eight touchdowns and just two interceptions. The Mountaineers also average 44 points per game in the four games Elder has started.
