Louise Adams
Mrs. Louise Adams, 59, of Butler, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born June 27, 1948 in Johnson County to the late Glen and Opal Rash.
Mrs. Adams was a housewife. She also loved her family and will be truly missed. She loved babysitting her grandchild. Mrs. Adams attended Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Charlie Adams; one daughter, Bridgette Shepherd and husband, Joe, of Butler; one son, Herbie Adams and fiancé, Dawn Reece, of Butler; one granddaughter, Autumn Shepherd of Butler; and her mother-in-law, Dora Adams, of Butler. She is also survived by several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles; and a special sister-in-law, Rilda Rash of Mountain City, Tenn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Roy Rash and Elmer Rash; and father-in-law, Willie Adams.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Peterson and Pastor Ron Manuel to officiate. The committal service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at the Adams Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Mandy Brown
Mrs. Mandy Brown, 87, of 551 Matson Road, Jonesborough, Tenn., died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at her home.
She was born Nov. 28, 1919 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late John Hillary and Myrtle Sluder Shelton Shores.
Mrs. Brown was a retired seamstress for Shadowline, Inc in Boone. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and attended Lighthouse Ministries Sunday School.
Survivors include two daughters, Anna Belle Wilson, and Mary Hall and husband, Jack, all of Jonesborough; one son, Monroe Brown and wife, Anita, of Todd; five grandchildren, Gary Hall, Yvonne Wilson, Mike Brown, Jeff Brown, and Clinton Brown; three sisters, Geneva Shelton and husband, Vern, of Vilas, Reba Potter of Sugar Grove, and Zelma Potter and husband, Irv, of Todd; four sisters-in-law, Sarah Green of Deep Gap, Mandy Norris and husband, Ray, of Boone, Thelma Brown of Todd, and Nell Brown of Creston; and one brother-in-law, Charlie Brown of Hickory. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, Amanda Brown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Kay Brown; one son, Johnny Brown; two daughters, Pansy Cloe Brown, and Ruth Brown; two grandsons, Clifton Wilson and James Ray Brown; one granddaughter, Ann Brown; one great-grandson, Justin Knight; one brother, James Shelton; and one sister, Mary Snyder.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday evening, Sept. 13, 2007, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were Dr. Robert Ellison and Pastor Kenneth Phillips. Graveside services and burial were conducted Friday morning in the Thomas Cemetery.

Mariam Cannon Hayes
The community is invited to attend a service in remembrance of the life and good works of Ms. Mariam Cannon Hayes on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. at the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church.
Charles H. Mast
Mr. Charles H. "Cecil" Mast, 75, of 2733 Laurel Creek Road, Banner Elk, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at his home.
He was born Jan. 1, 1932 in Watauga County, a son of the late Charlie William and Bradie Presnell Mast.
Mr. Mast was a retired machine operator for Vermont American.
Survivors include one sister, Virginia "Betty" Mast Harmon and husband, Ernest, of Elk Park; and a brother-in-law, Clay Ward of Holden Beach, N.C. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Mast Ward; and one brother, Chester Mast.
Services will be conducted Wednesday morning, Sept. 12, 2007, at 10:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 9:00 until 10:00 o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Quincy Norris. Burial will follow in the Mast Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, from 9:00 until 10:00 o'clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
The family has respectfully request no food.

Mary Katherine Wright Tarr
Mrs. Mary Katherine Wright Tarr died quietly with her son, Charles, at her side on the afternoon of Sept. 8, 2007.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1904, in Johnstown, Pa.
Mrs. Tarr attended the Westmont Schools and was a graduate of West Chester State College. She and her husband of nearly 70 years, Charles L. Tarr, were active in numerous activities in the Blowing Rock community. They made their home in Blowing Rock as summer residents at 164 Hemlock Lane in 1953 and became year-round residents upon Mr. Tarr’s retirement in 1971. Mr. Tarr died on September 25, 1999.
Mary Tarr was a long-time volunteer at the Blowing Rock Community Club Library and attended the Ladies Circle of the Rumple Memorial Church. She was honored for her many efforts with a Blowing Rock Community Service Award as Woman of the Year in 1993.
In addition to her son, Dr. Charles E. Tarr, and his wife, Gudrun Kiefer Tarr, of Brooksville, Maine, she is survived by beloved nieces and nephews: Mary Stevens Gottfried and husband, Dr. Roy Gottfried, of Nashville Tenn.; John P. Stevens, IV and wife, Brisa, of Washington, D.C.; William Nathaniel Stevens and wife, Sarah, of Lanesville, MA; Kate Stevens Theriault of Beverly, MA: and Helen Stevens Bulbul and husband, Semih, of Basel, Switzerland.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 at the Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock. Contributions in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Blowing Rock Community Club, 1022 Main Street, Blowing Rock, N.C. 28605.

Vera Hicks Harmon
Mrs. Vera Hicks Harmon, 82, of 201 Ira Harmon Road, Vilas, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 7, 2007, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was born August 11, 1925 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Charles M. and Minnie Arnett Hicks.
Mrs. Harmon was a retired assembly line worker for TRW, Inc., and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Harmon is survived by three sons, Roger Harmon and wife, Barbara, of Sugar Grove, Kenneth Harmon and wife, Ruth, of Vilas, and David Harmon wife, Jamie, of Boone; two daughters, Carol Lowrance of Vilas, and Carleen Wilson and husband, Russell, of Dudley, N.C.; four granddaughters, Angela Crawford and husband, Chris, of Weaverville, Kimberly Harmon of Atlanta, Ga., Emily Younce and husband, Jeff, of Vilas, and Melanie Ramsey and husband, Kane, of Garner; four grandsons, Mike Harmon of Charlotte, Jeff Lowrance and wife, Cynthia, of Boone, Chris Harmon of Fayetteville, and Jason Harmon of Boone. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews; and a sister, Pauline Hicks of Vilas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Dean Harmon; one sister, Betty Jean Cook; and one brother, Elmo Hicks.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2007, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were the Rev. Quincy Norris and the Rev. Burl Greer. Burial followed in the Norris Cemetery.

Tommy Holman
Mr. Tommy Holman, 38, of 9005 Three Top Road, Todd, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 17, 1968 in Ashe County, a son of Freddie and Grace Eldreth Holman.
Mr. Holman was a member of South Fork Baptist Church and attended All Things Possible Fellowship in Boone.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Holman is survived by two brothers, Timothy Holman and wife, Cathy, of Boone, and Benny Holman and wife, Vicki, of Todd; his maternal grandmother, Bessie Eldreth of Boone; two nephews, Avery Holman of Todd, and Ryan Austin of Boone; two nieces; Rebecca Austin and Lisa Hartman, both of Boone; one great-nephew, Charlie Hartman of Boone, and a special caregiver, Sam Ritter of Todd. He is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Johnie Holman; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Ethel Holman; and his maternal grandfather, Edward Eldreth.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2007, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Pastor John Page, Pastor Herbert McCoy, and Mr. Toby Grady. Burial will follow in the Howell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 7:00 until 9:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home. At other times, friends may call at the home of his father and mother, Freddie and Grace Holman, 8981 Three Top Road, Todd.

Wendell S. Johnson
Mr. Wendell S. Johnson, 45, of 222 Shady Grove Drive, Boone, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at his home.
He was born July 8, 1962 in Watauga County.
Mr. Johnson was an electrician for Larry Harmon Electric, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie Johnson of Vilas, and Braxton Johnson of Sugar Grove; his father, Reverend Carl M. Johnson and wife, Wanda, of Vilas; one sister, Sherrye Perry and husband, Larry, of Vilas; three nephews, James Perry and wife, Rebekah, of Vilas, Eric Perry and wife, Jennifer, of Lenoir, and Jason Perry and wife, Debrah, of Vilas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Ward Johnson.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2007, at 2:00 o'clock, at Calvary Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Quincy Norris. Burial will follow in the Lower Beaver Dam Cemetery.

Aubrey O. Walker Sr.
Mr. Aubrey O. Walker, Sr., of Rhea Smith Road, Roanoke Rapids, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007.
He was born in Littleton, N.C. to the late Pearl Mabrey Walker and Garrett Lafayette Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Christine Ferguson Walker; two sons and their families, Aubrey O. Walker, Jr. and wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Alyssa Nicole Walker of Charlotte, N.C.; and Edward Garrett Walker and wife, Jane, and their two children, Charles Aubrey Walker and Elizabeth Garrett Walker of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Clifton Walker and wife, Lolita, and Joseph Walker and wife, Evelyn, and their children and grandchildren.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Fowler and the Rev. John Rowland officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Mrs. Vivian C. Wilson of Florida, passed away in June 2007.
