Taking on Sugar
Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski of Boulder, Colo., won the men’s short track pro final in the NORBA National Mountain Bike Series Event held at Sugar Mountain over the weekend. Horgan-Kobelski held off a challenge from second place Adam Craig from Bend, Ore. Horgan-Kobelski finished with a time of 24 minutes, 56.36 seconds. Craig was second with a 24:58.91 and Todd Wells of Durango, Colo. was third with a time of 24:59.85.

Mountaineers play first five games away from Holmes
Appalachian State men’s basketball coach Houston Fancher wants to know right away if he can rely on a new set of guards. Those guards will have to prove themselves away from the friendly confines of the Holmes Center. Read more.

Pioneers work on air game
Since Watauga’s football team was limited to wearing just helmets and participating in non-contact drills, the Pioneers’ first practice almost looked like a bunch of pre-game drills.
