The Watauga 9-10 year old All-Star team competed in the District 7 Tournament this month


Lineman finish prep careers in All-Star game

GREENSBORO — Matt Ruff and Gordon Witte finished their prep football careers on a bit of a down note. Ruff, a 6-foot-4, 258-pound offensive tackle from Providence High, and Witte, a 6-5, 285 defensive tackle from Salisbury, were players on the West All-Star team that fell 22-14 to the East All-Stars in the 59th annual playing of that game. Patrick can run and ride
GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN — Glen Mays from Little Rock, Ark., won the Grandfather Mountain Marathon last Saturday. Betsy Patrick, from Banner Elk, won the women’s division. Both are natives of Winston-Salem and both competed at Grandfather for the first time. Read more.

Watauga Juniors claim District 7 championship
It’s not like Watauga slugger Baker Stanley was not getting on base against Wilkes National Monday night in the District 7 Junior League Championship game. In fact, Stanley had reached base twice and scored once before heading to the plate in the sixth inning.

Six named to CSN’s All-American list
CHICAGO — Highlighted by Walter Payton Award candidate Kevin Richardson, Appalachian State led all schools with six representatives on College Sporting News’ 2007 preseason all-America teams, announced Monday by CSN. Read more.
